COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottle Conditioned.
The Champion theme was used once again for this classic Vintage Ale with Champion Fuggles and Champion Optic malt. Slightly redder in appearance, this ale is full of body with a sherry-like flavour.

This is truly excellent. The English have really come through on this one. Remarkably complex and accessible. I might add to the other descriptions that there are some interesting mineral elements.

Inviting smell of sweet malts and bread. Moderate ripened fruit malt is the main flavor, complimented by a warming bit of alcohol and maybe a touch of hops in the finish. Not complex in the slightest, but very good nonetheless. Could work well as an introduction to barleywines.

I’ve said it before, I’m sure I’ll say it again. Stronger ales are where it’s at, especially when they come from the UK. Barleywine, this is. Absolutely spectacular. Extremely well-balanced, flavor is indescribably delicious. If you find this one, buy it!!

UPDATED: MAR 18, 2003 Sampled 2003: Hazy orange amber; chewy, old-tasting, woody and sweet. Decent, but a little long in the tooth.
