The Champion theme was used once again for this classic Vintage Ale with Champion Fuggles and Champion Optic malt. Slightly redder in appearance, this ale is full of body with a sherry-like flavour.

[550ml bottle courtesy of cgarvieuk] [bottle number 02626] Opaque reddish-brown pour, some lacing but pretty flat as one would expect. Wonderful nose Ė sherry, dark vine fruit. Mild, mellow flavours of sweet fruit cake, marzipan, toffee. Fantastic how the rich flavours have relaxed over the years, but the whole is just as complex as presumably it once was. Outstanding, just a fabulous beer [08052011]

Bottle that Peter Fowler, Shoulder of Mutton kindly shared at tasting at his pub 28.04.11 Pours amber and looking really good. This has been properly cellared for all of those years and it shows. Wonderfully smooth, stunning mouthfeel. There are some sherry flavours rushing through but then there is a long warmth and dryness. Still quite fruity and just very flavoursome after all of these years. Thanks very much for this Peter and thank you for passing another one on to me. A8 A4 T9 P5 Ov17 4.3

Bottle at Max and Jessís place. After we all got into The (Utica) Club, we had to party like it was 1999. Bottle number was 16921 I believe. Pours a hazed somewhat murky looking brown. Big bready malt and sweet oxidization. Grapes and malt. Toast, and a whole lot of caramel. Sweet oxidization, stewed stone fruits. Caramel and a long tannic bitterness. So much caramel going on in here. Held up very nicely.

Slight bit of oxidation noticeable. The finish is tart, tannic, bittering hops, which linger. Medium to medium/thick in body. Very, very good.
