3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
55 cL bottle. Pours clear and golden and amber with a slowly collapsing off-white head. Light woody and wineous aroma. Flavour is wineous and overripe fruity with a smooth caramel malt base. Interesting shift from sweet to medium dry flavour. Slight bite before the finish. Very smooth and balanced. Utterly impressive, HUGE thanks to Ungstrup for these rare gems.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
[Sampled November 7, 2003] The aroma is sweet malty with notes of alcohol and caramel. The color is dark amber and it has a small fast disappearing head. The flavor is sweet and malty with strong notes of caramel. A fine beer but not the best Vintage Ale; '97 and '01 are better.

4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
UPDATED: JUL 3, 2005 (Bottle 55 cl) Bottle # 05335 - sampled in 2003. Amber-coloured, hazy withouut much head and pretty flat in carbonation. Bottle conditioned. Extremely full-bodied, sweetish and malty - you really DO taste all the good ingredients in this. Appears like a very good vintage port. Simply great. 211203

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottled. Runy red colour, mediumsized brown head. Sweet caramel and plum in aroma. Flavour is alcohol, plum, malts and some yeast. Once it becomes a bit warmer the alcohol is more present (this I didnít notice on the 2005 version). Palate is good, but the alcohol makes the beer a bit sticky when getting warmer. Overall the alcohol is sadly a bit disturbing in this 1999 version.

Bottle. Pours an amber reddish colour with an off-white head. Sweet earthy malt aroma with hints of dark fruits and caramel. Sweet malty flavor with some hints of bitterness and dark fruits, also hints of caramel. Has a smooth well balanced mouthfeel. Dry warming finish. A very nice one.

Amber colour, thick collar of foam. Wonderful hop and malt aroma; itís very complex and surprisingly persistent; getting warmer it develops some wallnut notes, lovely. Powerful body, malty, sweet in the beginning but well balanced, soon, by the hop, that introduces to a very good, quite long, not too much bitter final. It gets better while getting warmer, loosing a strange unfinished/metallic sensation; but the hopping is worth this (expensive) brew.</br>I simply love the perfect marriage of hop and barley in the mouth.
The aroma is sweeter, with fudge; the taste is more mellow, honeyish, with sweet nuts and a lot of sweet caramel.

Cloudy chocolate coloured beer with a short lived biscuit coloured head. Obviously an aged beer with lots of sweetish caramel and chocolate but it still has reasonable carbonation. A nice orangey, port and aniseed finish.
