4.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle at home (from the brewery shop July ’12) - 23/09/12. No. 54386.
Slightly obscured reddish amber with a thin off-white head that thins to the edges, forms a pond, but then retains fairly well.
Rich dark fruits dominate the nose, prunes, cherries, slightly earthy and musty and some nuttiness - but it’s a few years old so I can get this!
Taste absolutely top notch. Sweet malts, caramel, dark fruits, prunes, dates, figs, dark sugars, a little biscuit and bread to balance.
Perfect on the palate - smooth, minimal soft carbonation, spot on !
Another great vintage from Fullers, still highly drinkable, although the nose has started to wain. Big relief that this one was in fine fettle after a recent ’99 had ’gone’ although no signs of damp on the label as was the case with that one.

Flaske nr. 54347. Spandert av og delt med Rune etter arbeidsøkt i WCveien 13 Mar 13. BBdato 2004 - men bar ikke preg av forfall. Snarere tvert imot. Rødbrun. Litt uklar. Høyt luftig skum. Markert aroma av tre & sevje. Smaken det samme med innslag av mandler. Svakt søtlig fruktig ettersmak. Lett-drikkelig.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Part of a vertical comparison, many thanks to M & L V.!. Huge, creamy, pinkish rusty head over copper-brown beer. oxydation, walnut, portwine, madeira, Christmas cake. Sweet with full madeirisation, sweet and (wal)nutty. Very slick, but unavoidable thinner MF than younger version, age-thinning. Vanilla, sweet bread, leaving a sweet lingering aftertaste.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
22 oz bottle at the Adam Jackson beer BBQ. Garnet color with still some carbonation. Nose is lots of dark fruit, digs, dates raisins. Tobacco notes. Ash. Flavor is musty, dank malty old hops. Old caramel, hops after it sat in the basement for a length of time. For the age still really drinkable. Typical old English Ale.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
500 ml bottle sampled January 2012. A light malty aroma with oxidation. Flavor is sweet, smooth malt, caramel, fruit, slightly spicy, bullion and some bitterness. The malt flavor is the key here. Fine body and pleasant aftertaste. Not really complex but very balanced and super smooth. Deals fine with 10 years storage.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
500ml still bottle conditioned despite best before end of 2003. Bottle no. 54347 bought at Fullers Brewery Shop and shared with Finn back home. Decent off-white head covering a cloudy, dark apricot coloured body. Aroma of dried fruits and caramel added by a cellar-like vintage touch. Rather comprehensive taste of raisin, figs and herbal hops joined by leather and biscuits. Dry, very dry, bittersweet ending. Well bodied. A truly grown-up brew. Tasty (Tromsø, 13.03.2013).
