This one was NOT at the top of the heap for the Vintage ales I've had. Oxidized and more pronounced alcohol - a burn really - than any of the others. Still some nice malt, the dominate factor, but all in all would rather I had this one earlier and still had a 1999. And for those feeling the need to know - this was shared with me, not my own. kwoeltje (1337), Manchester, Missouri, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | Mar 22, 2004 hazy, tea colored with almost no head. Alcohol/brandy aroma. Sweet spicy flavor. A bit to cloying for me. igneous1 (1374), Davenport, Iowa, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Mar 20, 2004 bottle No: 18502: lightly hazy, caramel/golden color, no head, well-carbonated. aroma is heavy on the alcohol, caramel and vinous notes pervade. hops are quite earthy in the nose. flavor is very sweet, big caramel notes, very sticky and thick mouthfeel. alcohol is moderately noticeable, but the big malt character is the tell-tale factor here. i have to say, i really like this beer. | 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Mar 19, 2004 Updated: Mar 20, 2004Bottle No. 21391 pours a slightly hazy reddish amber with a decent off white head and some lace. The aroma is like cookie dough and slightly of hops. The flavor is sweet showing lots of malt, some light hops, and some peppery alcohol. The palate is nice and coating. Overall, I could have aged it more, but I wanted it. TChrome (1303), Bedford, Texas, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Mar 12, 2004 Nice looking orange colored ale with a mostly diminishing off white head. Aroma is compelling and comlex. Aroma is sweet malt and smells "aged" with a bit of alcohol. Flavor has elements of the good barley wines. Big fruity, chewy, estery flavors. This is compelling stuff. Think I'll buy another one. CapFlu (3494), Victoria, British Columbia, Canada
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Feb 13, 2004 (500ml bottle) Pours a thin, almond, non-dissipating head and a sediment-filled, cloudy, orange body. Nose of caramel, cask and a strong barleywine? Smooth, slightly tingly on the tongue, complex flavour. Initial hops make way to a wave of caramel malt and a strong, pasty, sweet malt finish. Good.
