I received this bottle from my Santa Mads, many thanks! The brew poured a rich coppery hue with a lasting off-white head and very good lacing. The aroma starts with caramelized malts, honey, english toffee, vanilla, overripened apple, non aromatic pipe tobacco and a hint of oak. The taste starts with a heavy dose of bittersweet character with both hops and malts in wonderful balance. A vinous almost sherry combined with bourbon overtone hits in midsection. A beautiful oaky and smoky bitterness finished off the experiance. The feel is lush but not as heavy as the 1999 or the 2001. It is peaking it seems and is becoming the equal to the more celebrated vintages of past. Yes, I love Fullers Vintage Ales I case you have not figured it out. This rates right up there with the best. Sampled along a 1999, 2000 (which I am about to rate) and 2004. I want, no make that NEED another bottle. Please!

This seems to be aging quite well.. . loads of toffee and caramel, with a big oily biscuit aftertaste . .. do you wanna eat my fat? i think you know the answer to that .. . The theonly nagative is the mouth is going a bit, thinning out if you will .. It is what it is, ..folks!

500 ml bottle thanks to Kirk. Pours a cloudy copper color with a medium orange/white head. A big dusty nose of yeast and caramel. The flavor is robust with caramel, port, more dust, earthy, sweet oranges, lots of yeast. Really nice, has held up great . The oxidation fits in well.

Bottle. Glad we finished off the ight with this. The aroma wasnít so good, with slight hints at maple syrup, smelt like it was going to be too sticky to drink. The palate was very nice. A little sweet, but i expected that, rich, raisiny flavour, with slight hints of maple syrup. Some slightly caramelly salty, sherry like qualities to finish off, this was really nice. Good to share it with fellow ratebeerers.

Somehow dissapointing after having tried vintages 1999 & 2004 & 2005. A little disturbing burnt taste. Yeast particles which I havenít seen before. Still quite good.

UPDATED: NOV 23, 2004 Bottle # 15601... Poured a caramel color with a very small off white head, with very light lacing on the glass. Aroma of apples, plums, spice, nuts and caramel malts. Taste was more sweet malts and spices, nuts, a tart citrus hoppiness, and a light alcohol.

Bottled. Purchased by duff at White Horse on Parsons Green. Copper body with a small white head. Aroma is sweet with some grain and rum-soaked fruit notes. Taste is raisiny with alcohol, sweet malts, rum cake and spiced fruits. Body has light carbonation sharpness but is slick and a bit sticky. Finish is sweetened malts, ripe fruit and spice with mild alcohol notes.

UPDATED: SEP 23, 2006 March, 2003Desperation sets in. Only three beers in the house that I havenít tried. One is a Brasserie de Clerck (sad French beers), one is a Cantillion lambic, and the other is this. I was planning on letting it age a bit more before drinking, but I couldnít face the other two beers, so I opened this. Syrup sweetness, not impressed. Lovely complex nose - a sort of tea garden salmon. Nice complex finish of cascading hops. And the promise of delights to come in the middle bit which has a satisfying range of sweet malt flavours. But itís all stuck in the middle of a rather cloying sweetness which comes across as rather crude. The hops are excellent, coming through, even in this sticky mess, with a delicate tea flavour. But, at this age, the beer is so undeveloped that the sticky sweet alcohol is the predominant experience. Itís almost unpleasant. I have noticed that the ratings for the Fullerís Vintage have been steadily declining since 1998. Either - like me - people are drinking this too soon, or the quality is declining. Either way, I find this sadly disappointing. [2.7]
Sept, 2006KookFest 2006 Very sweet and very hoppy. Perhaps the hoppiest of the bunch. Toffee in the background. Swamped by hops. A fairly crude beer. Quite clearly a fairly simple strong ale. [2.6]
