Eyedrinkale (3209), Astoria, New York, USA Sep 6, 2005 Beautiful amber pour with a solid, thick white head. Aroma is a bit funky though with some flowery sourness. Taste is as good as I want from the style with some doughiness, maltiness and grape. No doubt this is better aged. sloth (1657), Ceciltucky, Co., Maryland, USA Sep 6, 2005 Bottle # 78111 Pours a large tan head, good retention, minimal spotty lace. Clear dark copper hued ale. Nose is fruity, figs, caramel with light hop spiceyness. Body is med/full. Dry malty, light grainy notes, raisin and some whiskey notes. Notes of an astringency are faint but will probably grow with further aging, better drink it now! Lightly fruity, dry finish. rickgordon (3285), Göteborg, Sweden Sep 1, 2005 Bottled. RBESG -05.
Amber colour. Almond paste nose, a bit sweet with an estery fruitiness. Big aroma. Almondy flavour, big malty and sweetish. JCapriotti (1378), Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA Aug 31, 2005 Thick creamy off-white head. Shiny clear copper. Head turns into a creamy ring.
Aroma: Dry and sugared apples, pears, brandy, herbally pine.
Flavor: Dry rindy malts. Nice mild hop finish that leaves a bitter rind finish.
pantani (1894), Salinas, California, USA Aug 27, 2005 not as good as the 2004. mildly bland. i was expecting more of a toffee taste to it, but that wasn’t there. decent beer, but not as good as the previous vintages. Retorp (2154), Tampa, Florida, USA Aug 24, 2005 Big thanks to Slob for this one. Very aromatic sweet malts and fresh baked goods. Rich dark amber color with a pinky thick head. Creamy malt and fruit flavors. Hammenlind mentioned almond and I get that too, but it is like almond extract as you might find in baked goods as I expereince it. Alcohol is noticeable, but only as an amped up sweetness and slightly medicinal/oxidized flavor in the finish. Great sipping beer. hammenlind (738), Sundbyberg, Sweden Aug 17, 2005 Hazy amber coloured, white head. Orange, cardboard nose. Slight almondy flavour with a pleasant acidicness in finish. Somewhat bitter. Wonderful maltyness. Has a warming alcohol feeling. TChrome (1296), Bedford, Texas, USA Aug 14, 2005 Attractive pouring dark copper color with a nice beige colored head that is slowly dissipating. Aroma is somewhat benighn, but does possess some redeeming qualities of carmalized sugar, and a definite dry British hoppiness that so many bitter possess. Very faint hint of bottle conditioned maturity. Flavor is nicely malty with moderate sweetness and just a touch of bitterness for balance. The defining quality of this ale, for me is a super soft, velvety palate that is a joy in the mouth. This does not make up for its lack of flavor, however.
