COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
95,000 bottles were produced for 2004ís Vintage, which once again employed a traditional approach, this time brewed with Goldings hops and Maris Otter malt. Distinctive cherry notes are evident, before a warming finish that mellows with age. Also limited availability in the Cask, mainly in the London area.

Chris Oís Fullers/Gales Tasting Feb 2012. Sugary. So sweet. Sugar water. These Fullerís Vintage Ales are not great beers. Theyíre OK, but they are what they are - beers made from malt and hops. The aging isnít doing much for them, and thereís not a huge difference from year to year, other than randomness from handling and storage. This one has become quite sweet.

Un-Muzzling Olde Muzzlehatch Ratings, #7. No idea where I got this bottle but Iím fairly sure I got it new and thus had had it for 4-5 years when I sampled it, from a Maudite glass, on January 14, 2009. It poured a tawny, translucent copper-brick with a reasonably sizable, lasting bit of off-white head, nice lacing and there was a significant "pop" to bottle when opened; it had held up well. On the nose itís caramel, sweet-tart cherry juice, a bit of licorice and vanilla in a fine, well-balanced nose that in the end reminds one of sherry most of all...loads of that tarry licorice character on the tongue, some smoky/burnt notes, and a caramel-molasses sweetness that carries through to the strong, full-bodied finish, with the alcohol pretty muted, and still a quite vibrant overall mouthfeel and presence. Perhaps a bit too much of the burnt notes, but otherwise excellent and I felt at the time that this could hold up a few more years. Pity I donít believe I have any more Fullerís Vintage of any years at the moment, sigh.

330ml bottle tasting alongside a 2006 @ 12th Shrewsbury Bottle Share, April 15, courtesy of Mike. Boozy fruitcake nose with liquorice, plums and leathery CAMRA sandals on the palette. Found the í06 a little more drinkable tho.

Shared bottle (#43368) with a 2006 by itís side on 28th April 2015 at a Shrewsbury Bottle Swap Group Meeting (five of us). Not a lot of head on the brown body, but plenty of condition left in the beer. Fruity flavour and aroma, Victoria plums being the main fruit for me. Smooth, mellow and sweeter than the 2006 version. I really enjoy these Vintage bottles from Fullers, hope to try as many as possible (I have a couple aging).

Bottled, thanks Boudicca! Vertical with 2014. Darker amber than 2014, small head. Dusted ripe fruit and caramel dominate the nose. Caramel and slight cardboard, mature ripe fruits. Some brown sugar and raisins, notes of hay. Low-medium bitterness. The hop character is all gone. Over the edge, Iím afraid.

Bottle no.88883, pours with a thin brownish head over a mahogany body. Aroma of caramel & syrup. Taste is burnt caramel, butterscotch, orange peel, dark fruit & sherry. Bitter hop finish. It has lost some of its viscosity over the last 10 years but itís standing up very well considering the not so perfect storage conditions it has endured.

Bottle shared at the 9th Richmond Rare & Unusual Epic Tasting, Richmond, VA, 11/30/14. Pours a hazy amber with a thin head. Poor head retention. Aroma of toffee, raisin, mild hops. The taste is toffee, earth, caramel, dark fruits. Medium bodied, low carbonation, some oxidation but held up very nicely for a decade old.
