4.7 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
UPDATED: DEC 1, 2011 This is probably among the the best beers I have ever had. It was four years old when I had it, and 4 years definitely did the trick for this one. Having tasted several Vintage Ales of several volumes during these past years, this for some reason turned out to be exceptional. It is amazing how this beer managed to be so dark, roasty, herby, and deep, and at the same time, it had the twang of english bitters with twists of fruit, caramel.. The composition is unbelievably rich and complex. I do not know why, but this 2006 was much darker than the other ones Iíve tasted, even the 2002. In addition to the colour, the complexity was just on another level, which is pretty amazing considering how high standard they are to begin with. The situation and serving was also spot on which made the whole experience near perfect. It is hard to think of where to take points off since it was truly inner balanced.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
0.5 l bottle from Alko (vertical tasting 2006-2010). Amber color. Sweet aroma of toffee, tart alcohol, cellar, bread and vanilla . Sweet toffeish and berryish flavor with caramel, raisins, vanilla and tart alcohol. This fairly close to 2007 version but tastes surprisingly slightly whiskyish.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Another nice vintage selection pulled out a the brewery tasting room. Bright copper color with a small head. Nice rich fruity malt character on the nose with sherry and age character showing. Lots of bright fruit in the flavor and a smooth, rich malt character. Low bitterness, and barely any alcohol felt. Very nice aged character is taking over at this point, Liked it much better than the 2009.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle No. 82145. Poured honey brown with a thick beige head. Not unlike the others in this vertical, this has a big yeasty sweet aroma with dark fruit notes, yeast, bread, dough, and raisins. Still has quite an alcohol bite to it from the first sip up until the end. Mild sweet finish. Perhaps the third best out of this vertical, 2004-2007.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Tasted Dec 2010 - Excellent age
Light malts, more hops and wood than the 2005
Smooth distinct flavours, sweet malts and sharp hops play off each other nicely. Wood and hops linger in the finish.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Med amber brown color. Dried fruit cake jumps out from the nose, followed by wood, earth and walnuts. The mouth is a touch sweet, with notes of oak, fruit cake and walnuts. Hops lightly hit the back of the mouth. Dry lingering fruit cake finish. Excellent, but not the best ever.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle 30066 courtesy of Fullers. Nearly clear dark amber chestnut colour, nice lace. Nose is an alcoholic sweetness, but balanced by some fun malty stuff with a bit of ripe banana right at the end. Only a touch of meaty doughiness. Initial mouthfeel is quite thin, sweet and fruity, lovely, some sweet glazed fruit. Reasonably brilliant.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bottle #17353: Hazy, chestnut-brown coloured, bigger fluffy beige head; solid sweet-toasty nose: dried fruits - especially raisins - liquorice and a tinge of chocolate; solid bitter-sweet flavour, full bodied, almost oily texture; lingering hoppy and sweet-fruity finish with a tinge of cacao in the aftertaste. Just great.....
