Vintage Ale is a truly distinguished bottle conditioned beer. Each vintage is a blend of that year’s finest malt and hops, creating a unique limited edition brew. Being bottle conditioned, it is after bottling that the flavours truly begin to develop, and continue to do so well beyond the best before date that we are obliged to state.

The 2009 Vintage features Kent grown Golding Hops and East Anglian Tipple malted barly. It has an intial aroma of rich Muscavado sugar followed by a brandied caramelised

Bottle poured a clear amber with a small lingering amber head. Aromasof carmel, toffee, fruittiness and light earthiness. Palate was medium bodied and crisp with a warming finish. Flavors of carmel, toffee, fruittiness, light spice and a hint of earthiness with a crisp warming lingering sweet toffee finish.

The 2009 was a well done old ale. Though not complex it had mMild fruit, and noticeable carmel that gave it an above average mouthfeel. Not sweet, most drinkable.Good head.

Mmmmm...delicious beer. This is my first fresh one and it is almost as good as an aged one. Aroma was good. Roasted caramel with earthy notes. Pour was a beautiful dark gold with a thin tan ring for a head. Taste was deep roasted caramel. Huge malt bomb this beer is. Strong sweet chewy caramel. No hops detected at all. Great beer

Bottle: Poured a deep clear bright copper color ale with a large foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of caramelized sugar with some light toffee notes is quiet enticing and minimal hops presence is perfectly suited to this beer. Taste is also a nice mix between some sweet caramelized sugar notes with nice creamy malt backbone. Body is about average but with a nice creamy texture and good carbonation with no sign of alcohol. Very well done and I thought this was less hoppy then in prior year which suited this beer.

Cask (handpump) at the Great British Beer Festival, Day 1, August 2009. First appearance for the 2009 Vintage and, whilst it was interesting to try this it was clearly far too young. The aroma was tart berry fruit and quite spirity alcohol. Sweet malt, dried fruit and some orange zest. It seemed rather short of depth to me at this stage. Needs more time for the flavours to develop and integrate. A one year old cask would be a much more interesting proposition. But, for this one, I’ll just have to see how the bottle is in a year or two. I anticipate significant improvement.

Dark amber. Fairly still. Thin head. Mild aroma of malt and a rough bitterness with a good swirl. A touch syrupy. Blend of strong caramel, alcohol and hops. I used to buy a case but doesn’t thrill me this year.

Cask @ GBBF 2009. Pours a clear amber color with a small off-white head. Has a fruity malty caramel aroma with hints of dark fruit. Sweetish malty warming caramel and dark fruit flavor. Has a sweetish warming dark fruit finish with hints of carame land alcohol in the aftertaste.

Very reddish brown pour. Thin head that does seem to last. Very malty scent. Roasty and nutty. Nice rich taste. Thick and deep. Slightly warming. Nuts and roasted malty sweetness. Very well balanced. Excellent carbonation level. Best beer I have had in quite some time. Glad I accidentally bought two of these.
