Vintage Ale is a truly distinguished bottle conditioned beer. Each vintage is a blend of that year’s finest malt and hops, creating a unique limited edition brew. Being bottle conditioned, it is after bottling that the flavours truly begin to develop, and continue to do so well beyond the best before date that we are obliged to state.

The 2009 Vintage features Kent grown Golding Hops and East Anglian Tipple malted barly. It has an intial aroma of rich Muscavado sugar followed by a brandied caramelised

Pours a reddish brown color with a creamy tannish colored head. Aroma is of slight funk, a bit of vegetable ale scent as well, finished with a ever so slight hop note with a sweetness to it. Taste is extremely interesting, very sweet flavor from the malt body, deep caramel note followed by a very light bitterness which rounds it out. Overall a very complex and interesting drink, one to try but not overly drinkable.

Part of a vertical comparison, many thanks to M & L V.!. Huge cream-coloured head over faintly hazy amber beer. Molasses, caramel (the Muscovado!), and indeed, very sweet-smelling. Sweet-caramelly caramel-covered cookies, Café Noir, faint trace of raw alcohol (again the sugar?). Sticky, medium to full-bodied, viscous, but surprisingly well-carbonated. Perfectly balanced it would be, if half of the sugar would have been left out.

My friends and I always save these beers for special occasions. This one was enjoyed at a recent dinner club gathering that we do several times per year. This is always a complex, sophisticated ale that is best enjoyed with good friends who truly appreciate good beer. Pours a beautiful amber color with a modest off white head. Aroma is of sweet malt and brown sugar, and dark fruits. Flavor has sweet malts, dark fruit, molasses, and a warming lingering finish that is reminscent of a good brandy.

bottle shared poured a hazy orange/brown color. sweet malt aroma almost the sensation of sweet tea. the flavor is boozy upfront and then sweet malts blended into a wonderful flavor. there is a bit of doughiness from the yeast.

Bottle (#079237) shared by Cuso, thank you! Hazy deep amber colour. Aroma plum, caramel, light alcohols, diacetyl. Taste is soft chocolate, toffee, lightly fruity. Light background bitterness. Finish is long, sweet, balanced with some bitterness. Late roasted character.

Bottle(#017208):Amber coloured, stable and lacy and creamy off-white foam, nuts or almonds, dried fruits and/or raisins and a touch of port-wine in the complex nose; moderate to solid sweet flavour with a slight bitterness, full bodied; more bitterness in the still sweet fruity-vinous-caramally finish. Heavy and nice…

500 ml bottle # 016783 Clear medium copper, smaller creamy tan head settles and mostly fades. Musty aroma of strong sweet malt. Sweet malty taste, caramel, toffee, some fruitiness, backseat earthy floral herbal hops, a lil’ boozy and slightly oily. Soft carbonation, medium-full bodied, lightly hopped. A little disappointing. DNFL (Definitely Not For Lagerboys)
