The 2011 Vintage Ale, our 15th, is brewed with some of the finest of this year’s malt and hops. The malt grist includes a portion produced by Warminster maltings, from organic barley grown by Sir James Fuller on the Nestone Park Estate. This will be married with the choicest Goldings, Organic First Gold and award winning Sovereign hops, to produce a beer with a firm malt base, marmalade notes and a satisfying bitter finish. Individually packaged and numbered, this bottle is one of only one hundred and fifty thousand produced.

2011 vintage. 500ml bottle into a nonic. Pours a hazy dark copper with a frothy one finger white head. Very good head retention and lacing. The aroma is full of caramel and sweet toffee with loads of figs and plums. Some orange sneaks through along with sherry. Really good depth and there is a lot going on. A huge hit of caramel up front in the taste along with some chocolate. There is a subtle smokiness in the background too. A heavy sherry note along witih plums and figs. Bready malt in there but the dark fruit really dominates. I can also detect some orange. Towards the finish, there is a quick metallic shot followed by a whiff of alcohol. Mouthfeel is fairly thick with a decent sweetness lingering after the finish. Overall, a very deep and complex beer. There is really a lot going on here in the aroma and flavor and it is a wonderful drinking experience. I really with I could try some of the other vintages.

Clear dark red colour, with a creamy off white head. Bittersweet malty aroma with lemon, pear, peach, plum and brown sugar. Full, warming body. Excellent bittersweet flavour with caramel, liqueur, blood orange, honey. Great.

Bottle #043485, consumed November 2013. Pours a deep orange, clear, with a perfect half-inch beige head. Aroma of raisin, marmalade, and light toffee. Taste is sweet and fruity, mildly boozy, with a warm bitter finish. Medium-full body, smooth mouthfeel. Great stuff! Will save my next bottle for another year.

Feb 2012 Chris O’s Fullers/Gales Tasting. Dry. Tight. Yeasty. OK, but a bit dirty. Perhaps it needs more time to settle.

When my brother texted me from the Great British Beer Festival with a photo of the 2013 draught version he was drinking I thought - don’t get mad, get even and opened a 2011 bottle! I wouldn’t usually drink this beer so young or in the summer months but wow, this is delicious. Massive frothy head, golden, sweet with an excellent hop balance and long lingering aftertaste. A hard act to follow.

Bottle 127865. Good sized milky tan head of medium sized bubbles. Fruity aroma with some marmalade as the description says, vanilla beans, sweet malts and some toffee. Color is a hazy dark copper. Flavor is a bit sweeter than expected for a 2 year old brew. More vanilla, caramel, sweet malts and some butterscotch. Light alcohol presence. I am really diggin this vintage. Finishes malty with a tad of sweetness. A pretty good brew and one of the better recent vintages.
