Tons of bourbon flavor for relatively low gravity beer. Very smooth and a bit sweet, quite nice. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

On tap at Milltown. Pours a soft copper amber with a generous 2 finger creamy sandstone tan head. A light sweetness shows in the nose with a touch of apple skins and wood. Bourbon is strong in the flavor with some toasted and cracker-y notes and a touch of sweetness. Toasted coconut and vanilla show from the wood with the bourbon more in the front than the back of the mouth. Light bodied and crisp. This stayed together better than I expected for the age it is. Pretty nice.

A bourbon aged lager? Had to try. A murky yellow color with not too much head. The taste and aroma were definitely boozy bourbon. Very sweet and smooth for barrel-aged. I am not sure lager is the best barreling vehicle, but I thought this one was very tasty and different.

Draft at busy bee. Hazy amber orange with no head. Has a funny aftertaste. Not. Lager fan. Smell the yeast over the Jim beam. Not a good sign. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

UPDATED: FEB 11, 2012 On tap at the brewery. Pours light, clear amber-orange like the base beer, with perhaps a slightly smaller head? The booze really takes this over in a pretty weird way, bringing out the sour sharpness of the Elijah Craig (that’s what the version I had was aged in) more than more subtle or expected notes.

On tap at the anniversary party, which was slammed and unpredictable (WTF with Traction Engine kicking in under 3 minutes?!?). The relatively yeasty character of the base beer, which is usually quite enjoyable, isn’t necessarily done any favors by the barrel. Soft wood and booze in the nose alright, but the taste is a bit undone since the combination lends things an overall mild tartness which only halfway works. Still, glad to see FS working it out with the experiments.

A nice variant of an already classic sweetish lager. Barrel taste wasn’t overbearing, added a nice smokey-tasting finish in addition to the bourbon aroma
