UPDATED: FEB 11, 2012 On tap at the brewery. Pours light, clear amber-orange like the base beer, with perhaps a slightly smaller head? The booze really takes this over in a pretty weird way, bringing out the sour sharpness of the Elijah Craig (that’s what the version I had was aged in) more than more subtle or expected notes.

sample at Brewvival on 2/25/12. copper pour with a white head. bourbon nose with vanilla notes. med body with sweet caramel malt notes followed by light bourbon. sweet finish with caramel and light fruit esters with lingering oak.

Draft at Brewvival 2012. Pours a slightly hazy amber with nearly no head. Aroma of whisky, coconut, wood, honey and apple. The taste is apple, whisky and grainy malts. Medium bodied.

On tap at the anniversary party, which was slammed and unpredictable (WTF with Traction Engine kicking in under 3 minutes?!?). The relatively yeasty character of the base beer, which is usually quite enjoyable, isn’t necessarily done any favors by the barrel. Soft wood and booze in the nose alright, but the taste is a bit undone since the combination lends things an overall mild tartness which only halfway works. Still, glad to see FS working it out with the experiments.

A nice variant of an already classic sweetish lager. Barrel taste wasn’t overbearing, added a nice smokey-tasting finish in addition to the bourbon aroma

at brewery, during anniversary celebration. good aroma, mostly barrel, minor sweet maltiness, kind of banana bread like. Brownish orange color, little to no head, no lace. Bitter flavor, Lite body, smooth mouthfeel, sweet smoke finish. Pretty tasty, didn’t know what to expect with this one as it’s not a style I expect to be ba’d. but the barrel was a t a nice level without being overbearing. nice treat...
