COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Tart & earthy, this beer is 1/3 sour mashed Carver and 2/3 "regular" Carver. It’s tangy and refreshing -- brewed not as a sour, but a sour mash.

Orange pour with medium white head. Aroma of citrus and some spice, flavor was citrus and hint of sweet potato and tartness. This seems like a hybrid of the Carver and Rocket Science IPA. Interesting but not spectacular.

This uniquely different style of beer is for those whole like their beer to have a complex taste. It reminded me a lot of drinking a whiskey sour.

Orange, like a sweet potato, with a thin white head. Odd aroma - cinnamon? Maybe? Some honey, as well. Oddly sour flavor, and a bit unexpected, given the aroma - but it was not unpleasent at all. Pretty tasty, in fact. Some sweet spicy notes and a crisp finish. I could actually drink a lot of this...

On tap a buncha times at the brewpub. Heavily cloudy beer, sedimental and homebrewish look to it. I like the tart yeasty aroma and it almost has overtones of a Berliner Weisse. I actually got very little of the basic Carver in the nose, and only slightly more in the flavor. Body is fairly light and lively, given how soupy the beer looks. Nice and refreshing, good quaffer.

Tap at FS. Yup I agree partial sour mash does not = sour wild ale. Orange pour. Typical sweet potato flavor and aroma. I honestly could not pick up much of a difference between the two. Cool experiment. Now dose it with 3278, pedio and lacto. Put it in a barrel for a year or two and NC will have the first REAL sour.

Crisp, tart tasting beer. Cloudy beer, looks a little raw. I like it. Refreshing tart lemon sour flavor. Not really a sour beer, but more of a tart beer. Very refreshing finish. would love this in the Summer

UPDATED: AUG 15, 2011 Sample at the Carrboro Beverage Co. Shows many of the same characters as the Sweet Potato lager with a mild acidity. Grainy with a mild leafy hop character. An interesting side project and I would be interested in seeing this done with other beers they make. Would be good for them to do side by side with the traditionally produced one as an taste experiment for their customers.

Draft at the brewery. Very cloudy orange colored brew with a pretty large white head. Nose is mostly lemons and some barnyard. I picked up flavors of lemon peel, pumpkin pie, and some of those earthy, rich flavors you often find in abbey ales. Nothing here is overly strong, though, so it makes for a pretty easy drinking, tart, sessionable beer with a lot of interesting characteristics.

Probably the best beer they make. I enjoy their creative ideas but I am disappointed by their results.

On tap, nice little light lacing. Slight sour aroma, it has a bit of sweetness that is interesting. Not quite too sour, an interesting base if they do something to it.

UPDATED: JAN 30, 2011 On tap at the tavern. Hmmm... this is barely a sour ale; in fact, I think it’s a sour ale mixed with 70% of the regular sweet potato lager. So if I were to rate it as a sour, I might be a bit more harsh; as it were, I found this quite refreshing. It does taste quite a bit like the regular lager, but it’s got a tartness to it and more of a bready/pastry quality and dryness to it. Pours hazy orange with retentive white head. Subtle in its tartness, but I could drink this probably as much or more than any of the other offerings.
