COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Last fall, local friends and family gathered 150 pounds of heirloom and backyard pears. It wasn’t until this spring that we had tank space to brew a beer from this harvest. This 9% sparkling ale is brewed with wit yeast and Northern Brewer hops. Not a funky farmhouse, but more Champagne-like and dry as a bone. Yet another “beer for people who think they don’t like beer.”

Bizarre offering from Fullsteam, I have to say this is the most unique alcoholic beverage I have ever had, I say beverage because its really not classifiable. The reason I say not classifiable is below: Light golden pour with medium white head. Lots of lacing and bubbles on the glass showing much carbonation. Aroma was much like a lambic, with hints of grape, citrus, and a little pear. Flavor was much like a $10 bottle of champagne (or sparkling wine in most parts of the world), extremely dry, well carbonated, and only a hint of pear, but of more grape, and a bitter aftertaste which hurt the score. Is it a lambic? Is it a sparkling wine? You decide.

bottle thanks to Chad.... clearish light peach with a bright white head, ok retention... smells very champagney, bubbly crisp, a bit of pear sweetness, nice... the taste is really light, a bit of juice but boring, really easy to drink for 9% though

Bottle: Gold pour with lively carbonation. Aroma is quite funky & fruity almost misleading me on the style. Saison like? Lots pear prickly carbonation and a dry finish.

another rating found on my phone’s notepad. on tap at Poole’s downtown diner ok aroma, sweet, pear little sour streak. yellow gold color. ok head and lace. Sour tart flavor. lite body, thin watery mouthfeel, dry finish. was ok, that’s what I had on my phone. I seem to remeber having it again somewhere, Tyler’s or at Fullsteam, and it was better, but no notes to be found....

O.K. beer. This has great aromatics to compliment it’s strong pear flavors.

On tap at Fullsteam, Derm. Nice sparkling gold pour into a flute-type glass, just a few ounces on a late afternoon. White wine, tart fruit, and slight champers in the nose. Mouthfeel is light and a bit prickly. Taste is dry, a little bit like bitter fruit skin on the finish, not quite so pear-like, more like unripened nectarine. Not bad.

La Fin du Monde glass. Gave it a sturdy pour from the bottle (the second bottle release from Fullsteam, and also the second Forager series release). Light gold; looks like a Belgian golden or even a pilsner. Sticky, alpine white, medium head. Aroma is nice and funky; not too strong though--more of a lambic quality than a gueuze. Some pencil eraser. A bit of sweet fruit in the nose, but really very faint--only as it warms up. Good, thick body to it. Then, in contrast, taste has hardly any fruit character at all. Very dry, very subtle. Almost a bitterness via the mouthfeel, it’s so dry: leaves a lingering astringency. I was expecting a great deal more sweetness and fruit, but it stays pretty dry. A sipping beer, and great pairing potential--no pun intended. Definitely tastes like its from the Fullsteam family.

Draft at the brewery. The color of apple juice with a big soda-looking head that leaves a nice cap on the beer. Smell has some raw dough characteristics and clearly a tough of pear. I didn’t notice a lot of pear necessarily if the flavor as it comes across a lot like a decent champagne...white grapes, alcohol, and a super fizzy finish to clear the palate off. Not a beer I’d buy every day, but I enjoyed it and it’s very unique, so I would certainly get it again if they make more in the future.

From a bottle at Carrboro Bevearge Company. Thanks for the share, Israel. Golden yellow with hardly any head, minimal lace. Aroma is minerally, white wine, apple, pear, and sort of like every other lighter fullsteam beer. Flavor is similar- lots of minerals, some white wine, light pear and apple. For a beer with "sparkling" in the title, this is surprisingly lightly carbonated. Its okay and not offensive, but the pricetag is.

Well, it’s definitely sparkling, but the pear part is very subtle. I respect that - restraint on a fruit beer is kinda rare. Crisp, clean, with a bit woody notes. Lots of dry white wine notes. Hides it’s alcohol very well, too. I liked this one and would to try more...
