COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Fulton War and Peace is a Russian Imperial Stout conditioned with whole bean Peace Coffee in the fermentation tank. Its an epic work of beer, but unlike the novel, this beer is brief and fleeting, appearing just once a year in February. Historic quantities of chocolate malt and roast barley clash over a field of dark roast Peace Coffee beans. Like Tolstoys masterpiece, it may take some time to finish and require some thought along the way. But by the end, we think youll find yourself better for the effort.

Appearance: Gloopy! Heavy! Glugs out a jet black body with a thin, beige head that was a little hard to scare up being a few centimeters. Smell: W+P is loaded with richly roasty, coffee aromas, backed by dark chocolate, molasses and a bit of sweet caramel with lighter touches of dark fruit, alcohol and ground spice. Taste: Deeply roasty with bright coffee flavors, bitterish dark chocolate and sulphured molasses. Some dark fruitiness present, a little spicy anise. Underlying bitterness beneath the dense maltiness. Touch of alcohol. Drying, bitterish, chocolaty finish. Mouthfeel: Full-bodied. Medium-light carbonation. Damnably chewy mouthfeel. Overall: From the get-go, this one looked like it was right up my alley and it was.

The coffee in this is very well balanced, and actually could be a little more forward for my taste. Very smooth, easy drinking, with a rich, rounded profile and a somewhat less-than-over-the-top palate. (on tap at the Muddy Pig, St. Paul, MN)

From bottle, courtesy of Joe N. Nice coffee aroma, rich and malty with molasses, chocolate, roasted barley, and sweet alcohol vapors. Dark black opaque with tan lacing head. Medium-heavy body with medium carbonation. Starts and stays sweet, rich with coffee, chocolate, cherry wood, roasted barley, and alcohol - fusel but not rough. Bitter nutty finish with lingering sweetness. Alcohol warming with light bitter after.

Pours basically black with a small head that leaves spotty lacing on the glass.

The aroma is coffee & chocolate with some very light hoppiness. Its sweet smelling, aromatic... really inviting and enjoyable.

The beer is a touch boozy, its got some good dark chocolate, its plenty bitter with lots of coffee and some espresso. Kinda sweet in a nice way...

Bottle @ Crooked Stave ROY-G-BIV Day. Pour is deep brown with a small tan head and good lacing. Big roast, cocoa, green coffee, oak, bread, and somewhat earthy aroma. Taste is dark fruits, caramelly, brown sugar, light cocoa, coffee, and wood with a light bitter finish. Sticky mouthfeel with soft carbonation. Very tasty and well-balanced, hard to believe it is 10%.
