COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
At Fulton, we love hops. That star in our logo is made out of hops, in case you hadnít noticed. Of course, the hops plant contributes to the character of all of our beers, but sometimes we just want more. Thatís why we decided to brew the Sweet Child of Vine. Generous quantities of Simcoe and Glacier hops are added throughout the boil. Then, late in the fermentation process, we infuse the Sweet Child with another dose of Glaciers, imparting a bouquet of hop aroma that veritably bursts forth upon serving. But donít let all this talk of hops mislead you. The Sweet Child has a serious malt backbone to stand up to all those hops, creating a delightful balance that will keep you coming back for more. Itís an IPA, Fulton-style.

Poured a dark golden orange with a half finer white head. Not much on the nose but what I do get is some mild earthy aromas. On the taste there is some sweetness up front with a light smooth maltiness in the middle. It followes with some grass and earthy hops on the finish that linger just a bit. Mouthfeel is light but smooth with soft carbonation.

Draft on tap at the brewery (Minneapolis, MN). Pours a deeper copper amber hue, darker body, richer orange honeybrown glow, mellow haziness. Orange amber edges glow. A frothy offwhite head laces well on the glass, mellow lacing. Frothy head laces ok. Aromas are a good deal of english malt, biscuit and gentle toffee. Toast, dry florals and earthy hops. Mellow bitterness, toasty malts. Initial is lighter end of medium bodied, offering toasty malts, biscuits and a decent floral and earthy hopping. Grass and gentle lemon. A bit of body, gentle spiciness as we move back, firmer florals and grass bitter it up a bit. A touch of body, toast and biscuit. Bready malts. A firm hopping that is in the true English tradition. What it lacks in creativity or oomph, it makes up for in sound and balanced brewing. Not bad.

On tap @ the Wild Onion. Appearance is a clear copper color. Aroma is a medium amount of flowery hops, and just a little caramel malt. Taste is a controlled dose of hops, with some caramel and toffee mixed in. This is not in-your-face citrus like west-coast IPAs, but instead the taste fades quickly and leaves a small amount of bitterness. Itís really drinkable, and medium bodied with good carbonation (not watery).

On draft at the airport. This is full of orange rind. Hints of tartness, malty/ grainy, slightly soapy. This is off, not very enjoyable.

Iíve had this brew numerous times and have noticed a common theme: itís rather delicious out of the tap but quite mediocre from the bottle. Served from the Fulton Tap Room by Target Field, it had a nice caramel color, prefect thin head and quality hop flavor. Out of the bottle it tastes like home brew. Will continue to order this on tap and avoid it from the retailers.
