COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
At 6.3% ABV, about 30 IBU, and on the higher end of the carbonation spectrum, The Expat is in line with classic definitions of the styleĖby the numbers, anyway. Unlike most saisons, however, The Expat is brewed with a substantial percentage of rye in the mash and is filtered prior to packaging. The result is a crisp, effervescent saison that is true in spirit to the styleís heritage of fusing refreshment with a bold, spicy farmhouse character. Itís a great beer to enjoy on its own in the late afternoon, but may even be better when paired with a meal.

Head dissipates quickly. Strong rye aroma, lots of hops and booze, with enough caramel sweetness to balance them. Strong bitter aftertaste. Pleasant medium body.

Rather hazy golden orange color with a tan head. Has a spicy rye aroma with a hint of sweetness. It is pretty bitter and the rye flavor is very prominent. It has a medium body and is also very carbonated which gives it a nice liveliness. It leaves a bit of a doughy after taste. This beer is just okay.

(bottle) Having been impressed with 2 out of 3 Fulton beers Iíve had (the much improved Worthy Adversary and Patience Barleywine), I decided to take a flyer on a sixer of this. I did not have high expectations for what I believe is Fultonís First Foray into sasionville. Pours a hazed orange color with a thin white cap for a head. Aroma certainly holds an abundant amount of rye, with a prominent baked rye bread note prevailing thatís coupled with some spiced apple and lemon zest. A hint of vaseline. Iím pretty surprised that I kind of like whatís going on here, although it is a tad muddled with a couple off scents thrown into the mix. The flavor is not as pleasant since it contains an indistinct melange of competing flavors that devolve into a jumbled mess. Thereís definitely some rye, maybe black pepper, something vaguely sweet, and something bitter on the finish. Mouthfeel is medium and carbonation is fairly lively. Overall this was fairly pleasant to sniff but distinctly unpleasant to drink.

Very good looking beer, sets up nicely. Smell is rather pleasant, floral, light spices. Tastes like a saison with rye which isnít really my style but I like to try new Fulton stuff.

On tap at the brewery. Pours a clear gold with an orange hue and a white head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has lots of grass and a bit of dankness with a rye backbone and a hint of light fruits. Flavor is much more flora with light fruits and a strong rye backbone through the finish.
