COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
At 6.3% ABV, about 30 IBU, and on the higher end of the carbonation spectrum, The Expat is in line with classic definitions of the style–by the numbers, anyway. Unlike most saisons, however, The Expat is brewed with a substantial percentage of rye in the mash and is filtered prior to packaging. The result is a crisp, effervescent saison that is true in spirit to the style’s heritage of fusing refreshment with a bold, spicy farmhouse character. It’s a great beer to enjoy on its own in the late afternoon, but may even be better when paired with a meal.

Head dissipates quickly. Strong rye aroma, lots of hops and booze, with enough caramel sweetness to balance them. Strong bitter aftertaste. Pleasant medium body.

Overall I liked the rye elements, yet I have too say it does not differentiate its self from other rye beers. To me its middle of the road

On tap at the brewery tap room before a Twins game. Rye element is a great "off the beaten path" flavor here.

Orange pour with a lager golden tint. Short white head, decent lacing on the glass. A bit spicy like a rye should be, with carbonation. Really an excellent summer session beer, not a perfect beer but would drink again and in larger quantities.

Tap at acadia. A bit metallic, but likely from the pour. bitter, but with sweetness. Not bad, but not great.

On tap at Northbound pours a brownish/amber with a large white head. Aroma of rye and caramel. Taste of rye and caramel with Belgian yeast. Drinkable but nothing mind blowing.

Draft at gold nugget. Funky nose.slightly hazy amber with thin white lasting head. Definitely tastes like a saison but has a bit of a harshness. Not the best saison I’ve had but not bad at all.

Tap at Muddy Pig. Clear light yellow pour with a white clingy head. Lighter bodied, soft carbonation, mild spice and rye. Not bad at all.

On tap at Muddy Pig. Pours an orange color with white head. Spicy, grainy, hay aromas and flavors.

Winterfest 2013. Good yeast aroma and light spice. A saison on the dry side, with some very light rye sourness. I like to see Fulton trying some new things.
