COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This Imperial Stout is about drawing a line in the sand. It has a consistency similar to 5W-30. Adventurous tattoo artists have used it in place of ink. If left outside during winter, it won’t freeze, even in Minnesota. Beneath the dark exterior, a swirling ambush of coffee and chocolate flavors await, held up by a decadent malt backbone. Like its namesake, The Worthy Adversary’s movements are mysterious. Be wary–it could strike anywhere, any time.

(tap at Stub’s) Pours black with a light tan head that leaves a ring around the goblet. Aroma of soy sauce, smoke, beef jerky, dark fruits like prunes, some raisin, roasted malt and chocolate. Alcohol shows through as well and the soy is pretty strong. Taste is full of smoke, alcohol, soy sauce, roasted malt, coffee, and some raisin in the mid. Leaves a char taste at times, but the sweet raisin in the mid saves it from being atrocious. Mouthfeel is very weak and thin, not chewy in the slightest and the alcohol shines through as well. Lingering smoke and beef jerky continue on the finish. Meh, don’t let the ratings fool you.

Dark pour from the tap at Stouts Pub. Nice mouthfeel, a little sweet. Roasted malts and caramel linger with just a bit of alcohol. Nice! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

A sweet imperial stout with hints of bananas, rust, and Vicks NyQuil. Not bad viscosity (modeled after NyQuil?) at serving temperature.

Black as ink with small brown head. Sweet chocolate malt aroma. Taste = roasted malts, chocolate, caramel and coffee. A touch of alcohol on the finish. Very full flavor and body. A little cloying but overall a solid stout.

A pleasant and tasty beer. good thick body and masks the alcohol well. I advise finding it.

Growler to glass. Aroma with heavy notes of chocolate and coffee. Nice roasty malts as well. Dark black pour with small tan head. Oily mouthfeel with a nice heavy body. Not too overpowering. Pretty solid beer.

Tap @ The Sample Room. Black color with a thin head. Light molasses aroma. Moderate grainy flavor with a bit of roasted malt. A bit of fruitiness after warming.

From notes. Tap. Deep brown color with an off white head. Sweet aroma. Some roasted malt, chocolate, and anise. Sweet dark fruit flavor fades to milk chocolate and raisins. Some coffee taste, too. Pretty light bodied for an imperial stout. Not quite up to par with many other available imperial stouts. It’s just too sweet, and light bodied to compete.

Draft. Dark black pour, almost no carbonation and a slightly roasty aroma. Flavor is dark chocolate, black cherries and a little syrupy on the finish (booze was barely noticeable, but I could feel it afterwards.) Not a bad brew, but I probably wouldn’t pay $6 for another glass of it again.

A decent first attempt. Roasted grain in the aroma, with alcohol. A few flavors common to imperial stouts, moderately roasted grain, some chocolate, and a little soy sauce. Oily texture on the tongue, and the alcohol presence is clear in the aroma and the flavor. Palate is a little thin compared to the better examples.
