3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle. Dark pour with small off-white head. Aroma is chocolate with some vanilla and coffee. Taste is slightly bitter and roast. Slight alcohol after taste. I was relieved that is was medium to full body, rather than dark water.

4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Served on tap at 8th Street Grill in a snifter. WOW color me impressed. In the past I’ve been pretty nonplussed by the offerings I’ve sampled by Fulton. A brewery which is (BTW) less than a 15 minute bike ride from my home. This stout can go toe to toe with any I’ve had in recent memory. The color is a gorgeous rich just this side of ebony delight. The aroma is just a promise of what lies ahead. Rich coffee and warm toffee, hints of cocoa in harmony and balance. There is just the right amount of bitterness, and roasted malt goodness to make this a grand experience throughout. The almost $20.00 a 750ml had held me back from buying this at the liquor store, but I would now make the investment in order to cellar one of these beauties.

4.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Deep dark jet black. Three fingers of mocha head. Two feet away I can smell the coffee. Pretty much ridiculous. Rich coffee notes and vanilla unfold. It smells epic. In the mouth the rich coffee and vanilla are prevalent but they also give way to chocolate and roast. Not heavily but certainly noticeable.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Black in color with a tan head. Roasted malt, smoke, and some coffee on the nose. Dark chocolate, a little ash, molasses sweetness, and maybe some alcohol. The flavor is really roasty, dark chocolate, and coffee forward. Molasses and toffee sweetness, a bit of alcohol, and a light smokiness.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Draft shared on tap at the brewery (Minneapolis, MN). Pours a rich deep opaque blackish hue, darker and dreary, some thickness and a frothy head dies to a film, tannish layer laces small. Aromas are cocoa and pretzels, gentle roasty and cocoa, a bit roasty, caramel and toffee. A bit toasty, mellow dry hops. Initial is roasty and cocoa, bit of dark fruit, cocoa and a gentle fudge. Roasty and coffee dryness and roast. Toffee, toast, darker malts. A firm dryness, bitter, a touch ashy. Gentle toasty malts, some cocoa, and mellow caramel, roast. Firmer flavors, good body although perhaps a bit light for a barrel. Firm rich flavored, good hopped stout that was a treat to try. Solid trip here.

Thanks to supercolter for the bottle. 750 ml bottle served in a CCB snifter.
A: Pours a dark black color with brown edges. A light khaki head forms on the pour and recedes to a thin ring. Splotchy lace is left down the glass.
S: Dark chocolate with a mild roasted malt body. Some light fruity yeast residuals. A little dark fruit.
T: The roasted malt presence is heavier in the taste. Bakers chocolate with a bitter espresso finish. A little char as well.
M: Medium bodied with a little bit of chew to it. Medium carbonation with a bitter roasted finish.
O: I really enjoyed this stout. Roasty and smooth with a little a chew to it. Nice chocolate and espresso notes.

On tap at Buffalo Tap in Savage. Very good imperial stout effort here - I like this better than War & Peace.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Not bad. Pours a thick, dark black with a rather short-lasting, mid-sized, tan head. Aroma is dominated by licorice and alcohol. Flavor is pretty sweet, with the aforementioned licorice, some chocolate and coffee. Not as boozy tasting as some of these high-alcohol stouts. Mouthfeel a bit on the thin side for an imperial stout. But this is a very worthy beer, on the whole.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Black, thick, no head. Smells like alcohol, chocolate, smokey, dark coffee, maybe in that order. Sweet, though not very bitter. Heavy bodied. Good, may may be better with a more toned down alcohol scent.
