This Imperial Stout is about drawing a line in the sand. It has a consistency similar to 5W-30. Adventurous tattoo artists have used it in place of ink. If left outside during winter, it won’t freeze, even in Minnesota. Beneath the dark exterior, a swirling ambush of coffee and chocolate flavors await, held up by a decadent malt backbone. Like its namesake, The Worthy Adversary’s movements are mysterious. Be wary–it could strike anywhere, any time.

Bottle shared, poured a dark brown, almost black color with aromas of dark chocolate, roast, coffee, light earth and some light dark fruit. Flavors follow suit, medium mouthfeel, solid stout overall.

Bottle, tasted 06/02/2013, thanks to Mac. Pours black, little head with a small haze on the surface. Thick aroma of roast and chocolate, some vanilla notes. Taste is deep roast and sweet chocolate, anise and coffee bitterness. Thick, heavy body, nearly creamy. Tasty, not bad at all.

Bottle from portableparty - thanks. Deep brown to black pour with thin tan head. Aroma is deep grainy, acidic roasted malt, coffee, chocolate pudding, caramel corn, faint dark fruit, and a moderate amount of oxidative cardboard and mild soy. Flavor is deep roasted malt, coffee, bitter chocolate, and faint pruny dark fruit. Fairly acidic. Lingering acidic roasted grain. Thick. A bit acidic for me. Nose is less than desirable, but ground is made up in the flavor department. Imagine this one has the guts to be a good candidate for barrel-aging.

Very nice dark brown almost black pour. Very little head. aroma is strong chocolate, molasses, vanilla, coffe. flavour is nice cocoa, coffee, light plum/dark fruitiness, molasses. Easily the best thing I’ve had from Fulton. I enjoyed this one.

Hella good beer! Dark brown pour, beige head. Big dark chocolate up front, followed by vanilla, coffee, the perfect amount of roast. Very rich and full bodied. Great stuff.

Bottle. Dark pour with small off-white head. Aroma is chocolate with some vanilla and coffee. Taste is slightly bitter and roast. Slight alcohol after taste. I was relieved that is was medium to full body, rather than dark water.

Served on tap at 8th Street Grill in a snifter. WOW color me impressed. In the past I’ve been pretty nonplussed by the offerings I’ve sampled by Fulton. A brewery which is (BTW) less than a 15 minute bike ride from my home. This stout can go toe to toe with any I’ve had in recent memory. The color is a gorgeous rich just this side of ebony delight. The aroma is just a promise of what lies ahead. Rich coffee and warm toffee, hints of cocoa in harmony and balance. There is just the right amount of bitterness, and roasted malt goodness to make this a grand experience throughout. The almost $20.00 a 750ml had held me back from buying this at the liquor store, but I would now make the investment in order to cellar one of these beauties.

Deep dark jet black. Three fingers of mocha head. Two feet away I can smell the coffee. Pretty much ridiculous. Rich coffee notes and vanilla unfold. It smells epic. In the mouth the rich coffee and vanilla are prevalent but they also give way to chocolate and roast. Not heavily but certainly noticeable.

Black in color with a tan head. Roasted malt, smoke, and some coffee on the nose. Dark chocolate, a little ash, molasses sweetness, and maybe some alcohol. The flavor is really roasty, dark chocolate, and coffee forward. Molasses and toffee sweetness, a bit of alcohol, and a light smokiness.
