This Imperial Stout is about drawing a line in the sand. It has a consistency similar to 5W-30. Adventurous tattoo artists have used it in place of ink. If left outside during winter, it won’t freeze, even in Minnesota. Beneath the dark exterior, a swirling ambush of coffee and chocolate flavors await, held up by a decadent malt backbone. Like its namesake, The Worthy Adversary’s movements are mysterious. Be wary–it could strike anywhere, any time.

Very dark pour, small head. Intense chocolate and yeast aroma, sweet and bright, nice oily palate. Excellent.

UPDATED: DEC 14, 2014 Poured from 2012 bomber received from jon the regular...thx man!....poured black with light head....minimal lacing....nose is dark berries and chocolate...taste is the same...this is a very tasty beer....reminds me of eating dark chocolate with cherries inside...alcohol hidden very very well!...yum!...this beer is one of those that you buy a 4 pack and cellar one bottle for a year or two...i can honestly say that after trying a 2014 vintage tonight that this one ages beautifully.

Enjoyed with the Lowther family. Not quite a typical RIS. Poured a bit lighter/thinner, but full flavored. A bit more malty/milky sweetness came through the coffee and chocolate. Enjoyed it.

A very sneak up on you beer. It’s not as thick as the ABV would suggest. Which makes it way more drinkable. Nice roastiness, some bitterness, and a very ephemeral sweetness. Quite good.

750 ml bottle shared several ways. Pours a rich dark blackish brown with a thick tan head. Aroma of dark chocolate, roasted malts, coffee, and licorice. Flavor is rich, bitter, strong coffee and roasted malt forward, with mild dark chocolate and cocoa sweetness. Rich and full bodied, creamy carbonation. Finishes long, bitter, interesting. This is a pretty cool beer.

This is crude oil in a bottle! That's a good thing. Massive body and full flavor. Perfect with dark chocolate.

Tasted from a bomber. It poured an opaque brown with a frothy, quickly dissipating head and plentiful, streaky lacing. Deep malty aroma with a hint of coffee-moca. Roasted chocolate malt taste thats strong but not thick.

Tasted out of a bomber. Pours like it’s description says, "5W-30" and looks like a root beer float. This is one thick muthaf***a!! Heavy malt, hop, and sweet aroma. Strong malt taste, kind of alcoholly.

On tap into snifter. Minneapolis. Appearance: very dark, possible black. No transparency. Ring if a small tan head. Aroma: classic imperial stout- heavy chocolate and coffee, vanilla, oak, alcohol. Taste: sweetness upfront with a dark chocolate bitterness in the finish. Nicely balanced. Palate: very full body. Thick texture. With relatively long bitter finish. Overall: a very thick and heavy imperial stout. A good balance of sweet and bitter.
