COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This Imperial Stout is about drawing a line in the sand. It has a consistency similar to 5W-30. Adventurous tattoo artists have used it in place of ink. If left outside during winter, it won’t freeze, even in Minnesota. Beneath the dark exterior, a swirling ambush of coffee and chocolate flavors await, held up by a decadent malt backbone. Like its namesake, The Worthy Adversary’s movements are mysterious. Be wary–it could strike anywhere, any time.

Hella good beer! Dark brown pour, beige head. Big dark chocolate up front, followed by vanilla, coffee, the perfect amount of roast. Very rich and full bodied. Great stuff.

Black in color with a tan head. Roasted malt, smoke, and some coffee on the nose. Dark chocolate, a little ash, molasses sweetness, and maybe some alcohol. The flavor is really roasty, dark chocolate, and coffee forward. Molasses and toffee sweetness, a bit of alcohol, and a light smokiness.

Draft shared on tap at the brewery (Minneapolis, MN). Pours a rich deep opaque blackish hue, darker and dreary, some thickness and a frothy head dies to a film, tannish layer laces small. Aromas are cocoa and pretzels, gentle roasty and cocoa, a bit roasty, caramel and toffee. A bit toasty, mellow dry hops. Initial is roasty and cocoa, bit of dark fruit, cocoa and a gentle fudge. Roasty and coffee dryness and roast. Toffee, toast, darker malts. A firm dryness, bitter, a touch ashy. Gentle toasty malts, some cocoa, and mellow caramel, roast. Firmer flavors, good body although perhaps a bit light for a barrel. Firm rich flavored, good hopped stout that was a treat to try. Solid trip here.

Pours deep black with tan head, aroma is chocolate, coffee, and lactose. Taste up front is chocolate, coffee, leading into dark fruit and a bit of roast with a sweet finish. A good imperial stout!

A decent first attempt. Roasted grain in the aroma, with alcohol. A few flavors common to imperial stouts, moderately roasted grain, some chocolate, and a little soy sauce. Oily texture on the tongue, and the alcohol presence is clear in the aroma and the flavor. Palate is a little thin compared to the better examples.

Draft. Dark black pour, almost no carbonation and a slightly roasty aroma. Flavor is dark chocolate, black cherries and a little syrupy on the finish (booze was barely noticeable, but I could feel it afterwards.) Not a bad brew, but I probably wouldn’t pay $6 for another glass of it again.
