COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This Imperial Stout is about drawing a line in the sand. It has a consistency similar to 5W-30. Adventurous tattoo artists have used it in place of ink. If left outside during winter, it won’t freeze, even in Minnesota. Beneath the dark exterior, a swirling ambush of coffee and chocolate flavors await, held up by a decadent malt backbone. Like its namesake, The Worthy Adversary’s movements are mysterious. Be wary–it could strike anywhere, any time.

Dark brown/black pour with a short mocha colored head. Chocolate and coffee aromas with a hint of vanilla and hops. Taste starts sweet and finishes hoppy-bitter and boozy. Flavors of chocolate, coffee, anise, and booze. A mans stout. Time to bury a fallen soldier and stick one in the cellar. I have a feeling my 3.8 rating could go much higher. NOTE: Fulton War & Peace is Worthy Adversary + Peace Coffee (Awesome!)

Black draft pour at Fulton. Brown head. Roasty and sweet. Vanilla cocoa and malty. Fantastic. A huge beer

750ml. Pours a rich burnt umber color with a finger of khaki foam. nose is chewy grain, soft roast, cocoa powder, caramel and cookie crisp cereal. Palate is silky with soft round roasted notes of cocoa, some weird ashy bitterness, lingering burnt brownie, decent just a touch of strangeness in the mid to late palate that keeps me from loving it.

750 mL bottle from Strykzone-thanks! 2013 bottle says 9.5%. Very dark but opaque brown rim. Nose of bakers cocao, burnt and dark roast malts. Thick, fairly oily, dark and burnt malts, cocao, some hot booze despite not being that high for the style. Satisfying if not terribly complex.

One of a series of great (and strong!) beers I sampled at MKC in 2015. Thick, rich, licorice, coffee, chocolate, and cherry.

12oz pour at the brewery. Very dark brown with tan head. Sweet alcohol aroma with malt and molasses. Sweet and alcohol throughout. Rich kind of creamy and alcohol bite at the end. Worthy.

12oz bottle. Dark brown with a slight reddish tinge, some brown head that disappears. Nicely roasted malt, chocolate shavings, some hazelnut and caramel, mild+ carbonation, moderate body, sweet, somewhat boozy, interesting.

Bottle - Pours ruby black with a thin tan head. Nose is smoky and grainy with peanut butter notes. Taste is lots of charcoal malt, a little smoke, and lots of grain. Again, a little peanut butter. Thin body, fluffy with soft carbonation.

Tap at the brewery. Snifter glass. Nice dark black color with a slightly tan quarter finger head. Aroma is relatively faint but brings roasted malt and slight coffee notes to the party. Hard to explain but a brightness to the beer at first sip that gives way to the stout strength as the sip continues. Definite coffee and roasted qualities but not an overwhelming presence. Nice balance and an easy drinkability despite the high alcohol content. Dangerous. A little bit of a nearly Belgian quad like essence which is probably why I’m on board. It is indeed worthy of a high rating. Might be the pinnacle of Fulton’s stable.

On tap at the brewery. Pours near black with a brown head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has lots of dark grains and roasted malts with a hint of coffee and a touch of dark fruits. Flavor combines bitter dark grains, roasted malts and a touch of coffee underlying.
