4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 talon1117 (1066) - Fort Collins, USA - FEB 2, 2012
The beer pours a translucent, gold color with a full, white, dense, creamy head which settles to a thick, rocky, creamy layer and leaves thick, Belgian lace. The nose is delicately pleasant and very fruity; some light candi sugar, pears and mango, dusty yeast, light cinnamon and ginger, some tarragon. The flavor is similar but carries a few more hop notes; still pear and mango, lighter ginger notes, some resins, subtle tangerine citrus, and faint pine. The palate is nearly lively, drying, medium, and soft in texture. The finish is fairly quick, drying, moderately light bitterness, citrus fruit (lime) rind, and some dry pine needles. For the most part a fairly simple beer, but very well put together. The beer benefits from the delicate nature of the beer and the way the yeast strains meld well with the subtle hop notes. The fruit notes were amazing and even more amazing how they progress through the flavor. FW does amazing work.

Bottle. Pours hazy to lightly cloudy orange with a large, frothy (thick) white head, long retention with excellent lacing. Aroma is bright floral and grassy hops, lively fruity esters (pear, apricot, peach) with straw and meal malt. Some barnyard and horse blanket notes late. Flavor is lively fresh hops, medium-light bitterness, tropical fruity esters, malt backbone with earthy and barnyard yeast and a dry finish. Medium body and carbonation.

Big thanks to fortsambo for sending a bottle of this out my way. Always love a new Funkwerks brew. Served in a Funkwerks tulip.
The only thing keep this brew from a 5.0 for appearance is that it’s fairly hazy. Other than that, a nice light golden color with a huge, foamy white head that really will not go away. Loads of lacing on the way down and a half-finger cap throughout. Did someone say cumulus? Truly impressive.
The nose brings a really nice initial dose of hops. I don’t know for sure if it’s Styrian Goldings, but it’s certainly something along those lines. Nice floral notes with a touch of fruit. Some spice lingering in the background. The yeast hits back with a nice bit of spice and zest.
The flavor is even more impressive with some really nice spice and floral notes. There’s a very fresh hop character to this to go along with some yeast spice and a touch of light fruit in the background.
The body is fairly light, though there is a slight chewiness to it. The carbonation is moderate to high, and there’s a touch of bitterness and a kiss of grain through the finish. Lingering hop flavor after each sip.
Quite drinkable and no detection of the 7.5% ABV. This is quite impressive and something I would certainly like to try again.

Pour out of bottle is clear yellow-orange pour with white head, aroma brings notes of biscuit, pear and peach notes, touch of orange and citrus, hints of slight grassy notes with a touch of spice. Taste is a mix of sweet pear and peach, hints of grass and spice, sweet biscuity bread finishes fairly sweet. Not bad.

Bottle. Pours a hazy golden. Loads of fruit in the aroma and flavor: banana, apricot, tropical fruits. Some peppery notes. Fairly sweet. Full mouthfeel.
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Denver2012 (24) - - FEB 22, 2012
Pours a hazy, light yellow with a huge, foamy white head that took a couple minutes to calm down enough to allow me to even consider drinking. Nice lacing. Smooth and balanced aroma that intensifies as it warms and allows the funkiness to become a greater focus. Some peach biscuit, a touch of pepper, yeast and the funkiness that comes with it. Initial flavor hit is a sweet peach, a touch of wheat in the middle closes out with a little pepper and some hoppy bitterness that continues to develop in strength into the aftertaste. Funky. Very crisp moutfeel with an active dose of carbonation. A very nice beer, another winner by Funkwerks
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 14/20 Beaver (913) - Fort Collins, Colorado, USA - FEB 20, 2012
750ml bottle - number 107 of 1008. Pours a clear (hazy with last pour) yellow gold with a big frothy white head that retains well and laces the glass.
The aroma is sweet gummy tropical fruit and belgian yeast with some floral notes.
The flavor is sweet tropical fruits and some bready malt with a medium peppery bitter dry finish. The mouthfeel is light to medium bodied with slightly sharp carbonation.
Overall, an interesting Belgian. Tons of tropical fruits, but a bit too sweet for me.
3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 notalush (3744) - Denver, Colorado, USA - FEB 18, 2012
Cloudy golden pour, with a frothy, lasting head - resembles a Hefeweizen - subtle but pleasant and complex nose of peppery and tropical hop character, moderate spices (sage, white pepper, thyme), a bit of pineapple - soft but full carbonation - light to medium bodied - flavor is moderately sweet up front, followed by mildly tangy citrus, melon rind - dries out through the middle, bringing fairly strong peppery phenols complimented fairly well by the single hop, adding even more of a spiciness - finish is dry, with lasting spiciness - a little thin/watery in the finish - needs to retain it’s body/firmness throughout, so it kind of falls apart in the end, but still fairly enjoyable.
3.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 RSRIZZO (1681) - Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA - FEB 17, 2012
750ml bottle poured into a Tulip at 45°. Color is a bright gold with very active carbonation and a tall white head. Aroma is spicy with yeast and fruit notes. It has a medium body with a light crisp mouth feel. Flavor is lightly fruity with a hint of peach and green apple then the spice jumps in with white pepper and orange zest and ends with a nice bitterness. After taste is dry as the bitterness comes in a little more and the pepper stands out and lingers a bit. Overall its a nice little Belgian golden.

Bottle shared by deyholla...thanks Derek! - Pours lightly hazy yellow with a medium white head. Tons of pear on the nose with lightly spicy citrus hops and a pale malty base. Tastes really herbal. Kind of has a garlic note to it, with some tropical fruit and a sweet malt component. Medium-bodied with nice carbonation. Good stuff.
