3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 NobleSquirrel (2677) - Chicago, USA - OCT 8, 2011
Draft at Funkwerks. Pours an orangey gold, fluffy and persistent white head. Nose is pretty generic to Funkwerks. White pepper and strong malty component, light fruitiness. On tasting, more of the same. Grassy hop notes and white pepper. Pretty well balanced but not particularly memorable overall. Okay.

On tap at the brewery. Pours with a hazy copper body with a lasting off-white head. Aromas are flowery, spicy, phenol, malty, hoppy and some vanilla. Flavors are malty, honey/floral, grainy, a bit of peppery phenol. Lively bubbles, dry and good. A bit more malt forward (and yeast clean) than any of the other Funkwerks beers that I have had. Nearly Biere de Garde like in that respect.

Tap. Pours clear amber with a medium-large, creamy off-white head, medium retention with light lacing. Aroma is spicy, grassy hops, peppery nose, light biscuit malt and light fruity esters. Flavor is malt dominant with light Belgian yeast, spicy and peppery notes, caramel malt and a lightly sweet finish. Medium body and carbonation, low warmth.
4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 ScorpyX (18) - USA - SEP 23, 2011
Sampled at the brewery. Pours a translucent amber brown with a thin cream head. A good amount of carbonation is apparent.
Sweet scent with caramel and banana hints typical of Belgian styles.
The banana is even more obvious in the flavor, accompanied by other fruit tastes as well. There’s a bit of sourness that follows.
The taste comes on strong, but the beer is crisp and leaves little aftertaste. Very smooth.
The flavor paired with the sharper feel makes it a very pleasant drink. Good example of the style.
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 ApisAles (1228) - Greenbelt, Maryland, USA - JUL 4, 2011
On Tap at Funkwerks, Probably the weakest of the offerings I had there. Slightly malty, the spicy yeast notes get lost in the malt. Still really tasty though.
