3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle. Cloudy lemon-yellow color with frothy white head. Good lacing. Pineapple, coconut, white pepper, wool, phenol on the nose. Taste is not that funky and not really sour, rather like a refreshing saison/pilsner malt brew with brett. Fortunately, phenolic flavor is not as present as the aroma might indicate. Light to medium spritzy mouthfeel. Finishes very dry with herbal estery notes.

1.5 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 6/20
bottle. Does not have much aroma, golden color, white head. Tastes like a shitty lager, mixed with a bit of wheat, and a touch of sour. Not much sour going on at all, it just has a bitter (not in a good way) taste. Really bitter hay. This is disgusting. Nasty.

3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
If this is supposed to be a sour, then it is an epic fail. If it is a saison with some Brett, then it is a nice brew. The Brett dominates the nose, and the palate shows a little funk and herbal/yeast components. Crisp and fresh.

750 thanks to adnielsen. Big carbonated pour. Barnyard aroma. Lemon. Tart. Dry. Indeed some pineapple. Don’t agree with the low reviews. I like this one a lot.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: JUL 4, 2014 Poured a murky yellow, with a huge white head. This beer is way over carbonated. Smells of slight tropic fruit, spice, and brett funk. Taste is fresh, funky and slightly spicy/peppery on the finish. I tasted this side by side with Elder Brett so it doesn’t measure up for me. Still, not bad.
Update: This one had three years on it. Has developed nicely. Much funkier, super dry and effervescent - good honey notes, pepper, lavender, and lemony. Really big improvement. 3.4 to a 3.9

Big thanks to fortsambo for getting some of this out my way, and also for sending along an extra Funkwerks tulip, which this was served in.
Pours an ever-so-slightly hazy straw color with a nice puffy white head of rocky foam. Really nice retention and some ringy lacing on the way down. Nice cap throughout.
The first whiff off the pour brings a pretty-heavy amount of Brett phenolics. Probably too much, as it really takes over everything else. Afterward there is some light pilsner malt alongside a touch of pineapple and citrus rind. The flavor has the same deficiency in the the phenols have really taken over. They’re not over the top to the point where it’s not enjoyable, but they do mask most of the other components of the beer.
Body is very light and spritzer-like, making it extremely easy to drink. No alcohol whatsoever. Bone-dry finish.
Overall, I really liked the feel, but found the nose and flavor to be a bit too one dimensional, and not with a characteristic that I was a huge fan of. Still, worthy of a try for sure. Love to see this experimentation.
