COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Fermented with two saison yeasts and a bit of Brettanomyces, this beer puts the ‘funk’ in Funkwerks! Aromas of pineapple compliment the flavors of citrus and subtle earthy notes found in the dry finish. Brett character will continue to develop with cellaring.

Bottle 745 of 2100 thanks to a trade with ratman. Extreme effervescence. Huge white head that builds over a hazy pale straw hue with noticeably violent carbonation. Aromas are funky, earthy, floral and brett. Some light chlorophenolics. Leathery, damp leaves, pineapple, earthy, bay leave and tarragon. Phenols are medium, medium low malt (bready). Lightly green and herbal. A slight touch of an umami note. Flavors are dry, medium to low bitter, funky phenolics, brett, tarragon. Light plastic note in the mid palate. Bready, grainy, possibly some wheat. Mildly pineapple and star fruit esters. Dry balance Extremely lively carbonation, dry, nice and light elegant saison body. Surprisingly not nearly as complex as some of their simpler saisons. Enjoyable but not my favorite from this extremely good brewery.

Great delicate mixed fermentation Saison. Mild perseverance fruit flavors balanced with spice an grainy malt flavors. Not a over powering Brett flavor profile. Very balanced like Saison should be. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle shared by Armin - thanks!! Big white head, a bit of a gusher, a hazy golden yellow pour. Lovely nose on this brew lots of fruit, and a little twang. Taste is pretty subdued though, somehow all the fun stuff in the nose does not translate to the taste at all. Flat. Still a fun beer to have tried.

Picked up a bottle despite the fact that it was $2 more than the regular saison. I just like brett, what can I say? This wasa cloudy yellow color, huge head at first. Smells like brett but not a strong aroma, a little funk, a little citrus, ehh. Flavor was distinctly brett but just didn’t do it for me. I guess I have been spoiled by Boulevard Saison Brett and Victory Helios. This was pretty average and completely overpriced. In fact I think the regular Funkwerks saison is better. Bottle shared at Darkness Day 2012. Hazy yellow pour with a huge white head. Saison-like with a nice sour element. Good beer.

A very careful pour yields a initially four finger thick, pale tan tinged, off-white colored head, that slowly rises an additional two-fingers above the rim of my glass that I had to quickly eat some foam before it overflows my Tripel Karmeliet tulip. The beer is a murky, pale amber hue, when held up to the light the beer shows a lightly hazy, bright gold hue. The beers smells of citrusy hops, an earthy, musty, slightly musky, slightly phenolic Brettanomyces funkiness. There is a slight pale malt character here that gets more pronounces as the beer warms up; nicely cracker like, a wholesome crushed pale malt character, and some savory straw like notes. The hop character contributes notes of tangerine zest, floral peach mixed with lychee, and just a really nice, expressive, rounded tropical fruit character; in totality the hop character really shines quite nicely and enticingly here in the aroma.

The beer is effervescent, light, a bit prickly, and quite light bodied; the presence of this beer on the palate just disappears after each sip, it has no real heft to it, I wouldn’t quite call it watery, but it is quite light. There is a nice bite to this beer that is a combination of hop bitterness, some Brett cured plastic phenolics, the carbonic acid, and a hint of spiciness. Layers of hoppy citrus character (tangelo zest, a hint of lychee, aromatic Meyer lemon, and a peppery citrus note), musty-phenolics, dried grassy malt, hints of tart funkiness, and an almost savory malt character.

While the beer is a bit on the light side, if the flavors were a bit more balanced and characterful this would not be a problem; as it is though this beer seems to not linger enough to be as noticeable as it should. In the end this is a good beer, but it could have been quite a bit better. The aroma on this beer is really quite nice; really well balanced between the yeast / brett character and the expressive hop character. The flavor falls flat, in comparison, mostly because it is so light bodied and over attenuated. Still this is an easily drinkable beer in the end, and I am definitely enjoying it.

Sampled on 10/10/2012. Caution: this bottle was a fairly active gusher. This wild/sour ale pours a very hazy light yellow gold color from a 750ml bottle. Large sized white foamy head with good retention and nice lacing. The aroma is fruity, bretty and sweet, with some funk and must. A medium bodied wild/sour ale. The malts are fruity and sweet, pineapple and citrus. The hops are earthy and spicy. Very lively carbonation. Some horse blanket, some must, some leather, and some yeasty esters. A lots of dry and funk. Crisp, clean and refreshing. A nice bretty beer. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is dry, clean and crisp. Aftertaste is slightly tart and dry.

750ml bottle - huge gusher so watch out. Hazy pale orange with a giant white and lacy head that fills the glass and eventually settles. Light brett, orange, bit of saison spice, grass, mango, bit of dough. Mild carbonation and moderate to mild body, bit of funk, somewhat sweet, becomes slightly dry with more citrus, bit of funk.

750 ml bottle purchased at Joy n Denver, Colorado. Bottle 1087 of 2100. The pour is hazed yellow golden with a one inch fizzy white head, foamy, falls with pretty lacing. The aroma is light citrus, dry leather brett, and clove yeast. The taste is the dry Brett leather up front, citrus, additional fruit sweetness and a return to the dry Brett in the finish. The palate is light to medium, high level of active carbonation, and a super dry finish. Nice one, tons of Brett character.

Bottle. Bright golden brew, slight white head. Nose of citrus, brett, and earth - lots of citrus flavor, especially lemon.
