3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle poured by Dr.Bill. Pours with a clear red hued body with a small white head. Aromas are of cherry, berry, light spices. Really dry. Cherry covers up the nice spicy yeast character that I enjoy in most Funkwerks beers. Flavors are of cherry, dry, earthy, light styrofoam and plastic. Medium to lively bubbles. Dry.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle @ home. $15 for a 750mL seems a little steep but with only 600 bottles, Iím sure they wonít have a problem selling it quickly. Burgundy red appearance with a cream colored head. Intense, toasty cherry, moderately spicy, almond aroma. Fairly tart, strong, sweet cherry, slightly tangy, spicy, belgian yeasty flavor. Pretty tasty but a little too overly sweet for my taste.

2.3 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
ugh. cloudy dark purplish body. cherry cough syrup everywhere. medicinal, syrupy, sharp flavor; tart and "sourish" with the smell of jerky brine and paprika and the taste of robitussin. unpleasantly forward alcohol and little to no saison character at all. an absolute mess and by far the worst beer Funkwerks has produced.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Sample at Falling Rock Beer Tasting with Dr. Bill on 10/13/2012. This brew pours a cloudy reddish-brown color with a medium thick off-white head that recedes slowly. Small patches of lacing on the glass. Aroma of cherries and bready malt. Medium body with a mildly sour cherry character and flavors of yeast and grainy malt. The finish is slightly tart with a cherry aftertaste. Above average overall.

Flavor is moderately to heavily sweet, moderately acidic, lightly bitter.
Finish is lightly to moderately sweet, moderately acidic, moderately bitter, unclean.
Medium body, watery/syrupy texture, lively carbonation, lightly to moderately alcoholic.
This beer makes me a bit angry. At best this is misguided...calling a 9.5% ABV one-dimensional fruit beer a "saison" is not the sort of thing one would expect from a brewery that has a page on their website extolling the virtues of authentic saison, with comments that could have come out of Yvan de Baetsí own mouth. So this is the last brewery in this country I would have expected this sort of thing from. Even though their standard Saison is somewhat under-attenuated, at least itís in the right spirit. This is just an Imperial Fruit Beer or whatever you wish to call it. So, style misnomers aside, what about the beer itself? What if we relax our jerk-off style police attitude for a second and just try to enjoy it as a boozy fruit beer? Sadly, it isnít any better even then. The aroma is fusel alcohol (seriously just like bug spray, and it ainít mild either) and cherry syrup. Not much else...and I spent nearly an hour with this, hoping it would get better as it warmed, but it only got worse. Dirty aftertaste makes it no fun to drink either. This is the sort of beer that can ruin a reputation if itís the first thing someone tries from a brewery, especially at $15 a pop, and I am very discouraged that this even made it to shelves. Definitely going to return the remainder of the bottle for a refund.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
A broownish red ale. Sweet cherries. It could be tarter and perhaps have some more sourness.
