3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 JaBier (3249) - Capital City, USA - DEC 13, 2011
Sample from a bottle shared by a generous individual at Jackie O’s 6th Anniversary Extravaganza on 12/3/11. Pours a clear dark red with a thin off-white head. Aroma of cherry, Belgian esters, herbs and banana. Yeasty banana and pepper flavor with lots of cherry and a funky finish.

Bottle at a tasting. Reddish brown color. Mostly cherry ad sweetness, with some bready malts. Not much saison going on here. Not that good.

Bottled. Thanks adnielsen for the bottle. Pours a hazy reddish-brown color with tan head. Aroma of cherry sweetness. Cherry, cough syrup, and light bread flavors. Not one of my favorite beers from Funkwerks. The cherry cough syrup flavor dominates and you don’t really get any of the normal saison characteristics from this beer.
3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 TheAlum (3299) - Lisle, Illinois, USA - JAN 23, 2012
750 ml bottle. Sweet. Pours a rich hazy amber caramel hue, a decent haze with a frothy offwhite head, thicker full film laces ok overall. Aromas are sweeter, with a discinty yeastiness. Touches of cherries coming in, getting a touch medicinal, with some dry funkiness, yeast, and sweeter caramel. Odd. Initial is Medium bodied, offering some sweeter toffee, biscuits, and toast. Gentle yeastiness grows, spice, and yeasty bread dough. Touches of cherries, skin, and tannins. A touch of sweetness grows, some gentle estery fruit. More cherry, gentle yeastiness, cough syrup. Finish and backend is lingering cough syrup, gentle sweetness, spice. Really odd beer. Seems unlike just "Cherry" blasting their base beer. Seems like a sweet big beer that turned into a Belgian/Cherry beer. Medicinal. Not my thing, but can place some value in it..

Pours a dark reddish color with a small off-white head. Heavy cherry aroma, a little bit artificial and sweet, though. A light spice aroma to it. Sweet cherry, spices, sweet bread and wheat.

2.3 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20 3fourths (6407) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - NOV 4, 2011
ugh. cloudy dark purplish body. cherry cough syrup everywhere. medicinal, syrupy, sharp flavor; tart and "sourish" with the smell of jerky brine and paprika and the taste of robitussin. unpleasantly forward alcohol and little to no saison character at all. an absolute mess and by far the worst beer Funkwerks has produced.
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 talon1117 (1066) - Fort Collins, Colorado, USA - NOV 4, 2011
The pour is a deep ruby color with an average, pale beige, pillowy, frothy head which is mostly diminishing and leaves some Belgian lace. The nose is interesting with bing cherry juice, some Amaretto, cream soda, musty basement notes, light tobacco, cinnamon, and an earthy presence. The flavor is still cherry dominant but a bit more tart, cinnamon still, slight peppery spice, ginger maybe, faint tobacco, and some almond. The palate is lively, medium to full, creamy, drying, and mildly refreshing. The finish is fairly long considering the style; cream soda again, tart cherries drying out, earth and cinnamon, and an almond note left on the tongue. I would have to agree with the others that said that this would be a stretch to call this a saison, however, in an imperial fruit beer style, this was quite nice. The complexity and originality were remarkable, as long as you are a cherry fan. This new brewery is doing amazing things.

Sampled at an esbls tasting. From Tyler. Dark brown and clear. A small light tan head. Sweet cherries in the nose. Thisbis very nice and itnis pretty non funky for a sour. Lots of cherries and they are sweet. A tiny bit of vinegar. Tasty but so one dimensional.
