3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
On hand at Wynkoop’s United Tastes of Belgium 2012. Slightly hazy light gold in color, with a peppery apricot-y aroma atop some Belgian pale graininess. Flavor was nice and eccentric, with apricot and peppercorn and grains of paradise coming through very well. Finished a little grainy and funky, but still fun to drink.

3.4 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
My least favorite of the Funkwerks lineup. Aroma was unpleasantly sour - like overripe and slightly rotten apricots or grapefruit so ripe they’ve fallen from the tree. Flavor is overly acidic and sour with no balance - dry and fruity in the extreme without any balancing malty or sweet character. Too one-sided, even for a sour style.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 15/20
750 ml bottle. Pours slightly hazy straw yellow with a medium creamy white head that retains well and laces the glass.
The aroma is fruits (apricot), bready malts and spicy earthy yeast.
The flavor is sweet citric fruits with some spicy peppery yeast. The mouthfeel is medium bodied and fairly watery.
Overall, a nice fruity summer beer. Good blend of the fruits and the yeast.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle. Pours hazy dark gold with a large, frothy white head, medium retention with good lacing. Aroma is apricot, grains of paradise, light biscuit malt, heavier straw and meal malt notes, pepper and ginger, and barnyard yeast. Flavor is malt forward with barnyard yeast, light hops and medium bitterness, pepper, apricot, and ginger with a dry finish. Medium-light body, medium carbonation.

2.4 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
Crushed on tap at Backcountry Pizza. Hazy yellow, opaque pour with a white head. Aroma dominated by pepper and ginger. Searched for apricot, but couldn’t find any. Ginger dominates the flavor, with more pepper and even a bit salty. Respect to Funkwerks, but this one didn’t work for me. Couldn’t finish it.

2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Pour out of 750 mL bottle, thanks Brandon for the pour! Slightly hazy orange with fluffy white head, aroma brought notes of slight apricot, wet grain, biscuit, bread, some yeast and slight spice, touch of grass, very muddled and hardly any fruit. Taste is a mix of wet bready malts, muddled apricot and vanilla, touch of grain, grass and slight yeast, some watery mineral notes as well, finishing fairly sweet but not much there.

2.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20
Holy fuck this beer is bad - nose itonot terrible at first, with notes of ginger, but the deeper inhales reveal sweet corn adjuncty character and cheap potpourri - flavor is chalky, with heavy, dull yeast - tangy and mildly acidic through the middle - finish is mildly phenolic, with some apricot - a fucking mess.

bottle. well, it smells like drywall and chalk powder and concrete mix with starchy dried apricots and minor notes of acetone / chemicals / hairspray. medium-light body thinning to a watery finish, as most other Funkwerks beers are. pasty, chalky, medium-low acid, medium+ tartness, low bitterness, mostly dry but completely watery and peaked texture. neutral flavor, decent for most of the drink but falling off at the end (sour cream and stale fruit). ginger? maybe a little bit, and old and stale. grains of paradise? nope. no wood, no herb, no spice at all. peppercorns? hard to tell. apricot? sure, but it’s extremely muted by the muddy, neutral yeast. disappointing.
