3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Nice beer, high carbonation. Sweet notes, there is some light fruit notes in the taste, I am not getting the passionfruit/mango in the description, but I guess some peach. Fruit is not dominate. Notes of wild yeast are strong. I do like the high carbonation, it makes this beer nice. Well done, almost a high-end session. Right on Ft. Collins!

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
UPDATED: JUL 14, 2012 Cloudy yellow with persistent head and heavy lacing. Nice but subtle tropical fruit aromas and yeast notes, but this was a bit of a letdown overall. Wanted more umph-didnít think there was anything special in the fruit notes on this that set it apart. Decent, inoffensive, but prefer their White and regular saisons.
>>>Rerate: This time I had a bottle of the original Maori that Iíve been cellaring for probably just over a year. Color was much darker orange than I remember. Thick persistent head. BIg honey aromas with warmth. Terrific tropical fruit (papaya, mango) aromas. Very enjoyable-wonder if the recipe changed with the switch to Tropic King or if the cellaring really did all that. An order of magnitude better than my first rating of this.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
A: Golden Orange with a nice thick white head that took its time receding.
S: Crisp with just a touch of sweetness. Citrus fruit aroma and floral aroma from the hops give it a freshness, maybe the malt gives it some sweetness.
T: Iíd say this has some sweetness there as an undertone, which is coming from the malts. There are some nice citrus and floral flavors on top of that malt base and are a bit sharper in flavor. Towards the finish some earthiness and pepperiness introduced itself. I usually do not like the peppery component to beers but here I thought it worked very nicely.,
P: Loved the mouthfeel. Thicker than I would have anticipated and maybe a little syrupy type creaminess to it. Started off a little effervescence in feel but finished out clean and smooth.
O: Very nice beer and I would love to drink again. Probably ideal for a nice, sunny day but I enjoyed it quite a bit in the middle of winter. It would be very easy to drink a lot of this one but the ABV would sneak up on me and get me in a bit of trouble.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Aroma: Very fruity and bright. Lots of tropical fruit, floral and citrus.
Appearance: Pale and cloudy
Taste: light sweetness, lightly sour, with some peppery flavors on the finish.
Palate: medium body, lively
Overall: It was a great beer to start a bottle share with. Woke up my taste buds and was fresh and lively. Slight tartness is always a good thing in my book.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
(Maori King) Bottle; Pour is fairly clear golden with chunky white head out of the gate; it retains fairly well, and the lacing is heavy.. if a bit.... sticky. This one was over carbonated. So - I think the nose was the highlight on this beer - you do get some nice fruity notes here - the funk... is not so funky , though - the fruit... peaches, definitely. A grassy hop profile with some white pepper, definitely. Anyway.... there is some slight cream at the onset.. the Rakau hops? Iím not sure if Iíve had it before - It seemed overly bitter for the style but it started to mesh a bit bitter as I progressed.
Anyway - more white pepper and grassy hops, a touch of muscat grape skins, peaches, maybe some mango... seems a stretch. The finish is a little off for me. Well...

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle says "Tropic King" on the label - Pours lightly hazy amber with a huge fluffy white head. Tons of tropical fruitiness on the nose with a peppery spiciness. A bit of doughy yeastiness. Real fruity taste with a subdued spiciness and apricot and mango on the finish. Carbonated really well with a nice fluffiness to the body. Nice stuff.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
750ml bottle. Pours a hazy straw yellow with a big fluffy white head that retains well and laces the glass some.
The aroma is wheaty malts, lemon and some tropical fruit with a little floral hops.
The flavor is wheaty, bready malts with some sweet tropical citrus fruits and a decent dry grassy hop finish. The mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with low carbonation.
Overall, a nice saison. The fruity notes are interesting, but itís a tad on the sweet side for me.

3.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
750mL bottle, no date from Lukas Liquors in Lone Tree back in early November. Pours a pretty clear golden with a big three finger frothy off-white head, lasting forever. Lots of tropical fruit and spicy white peppery yeast notes, some cracker malt in the backend with a bit of alcohol. Flavor seems a fair amount sweeter with lots of overripe peach esters, pretty well dominating, unfortunately. There is some of the aforementioned tropical fruit still, but not as present as the aroma. It is nice and spicy and bone dry, which is good. Just not a fan of the huge peachy esters. Bitterness peaked at a 3. High prickly carbonation with a medium body. Started out great. Also, my label says 7.5% ABV. A lot more esters as it warms.
