Our goal at Funkwerks is to make good beer for our customers. Our intention was not to disrespect the Māori people or their culture in naming our Māori King beer. Out of respect, we are re-branding this beer as Tropic King. This is our new Imperial Saison! Bursting with a lot of fruity tropical characteristics of passionfruit, mango, and peach from the New Zealand Rakau hops we used. Combined with the pepper and Ginger flavors produced by our house yeast, this is a flavor extravaganza.

@ Radisson Malmö 14-11-23: lätt doft av jäst och tropisk frukt. Eftersmaken lite kort, torr men helt ok.

Pours hazy orange with tall white head. Aroma of honey, wheat, grapefruit, light peach and mango. Taste is big fruit sweet, with just a hint of sourness to balance it. Long, honey sweet finish. Body is light to medium, creamy and smooth with soft carbonation.

Tropic King is a strange animal of a beer - I mean that in the most complimentary way. The inclusion of New Zealand hops gives this beer a distinct tropical fruit aroma that plays well with the yeast esters. While the flavor isn’t as tropical as the aroma or name implies, Tropic King reveals some bittersweet citrusy fruit flavors. There’s some nice black pepper spice and an earthiness that’s not quite grassy but close. I loved how fresh and crisp this beer felt on the palate. While I didn’t love Tropic King as much as Funkwerks Saison, this brew offers a lot of refreshment and unique flavors.

Bottle. A- Tropical fruits, hoppy, yeasty. A- Orange color, cloudy liquid, white frothy head. T- Slightly bitter, bready, tropical fruits, mango, peach, caramel, subtle funk, spices. P- Medium body, average texture, medium high carbonation, smooth finish. O- A lot different than I expected. There is bitterness that I didn’t expect but wasn’t necessarily bad. I was expecting this to be a fruitier version of their flagship Saison. I was quite wrong. This resembles that beer in no ways. I was hoping for a Saison that was full of juicy fruit notes, but this was more like a White IPA. Not bad, but not really what I wanted.

Bottle from Hazel’s beverage world. pours yellow with a half inch of white foam. leaves a lot of lacing in the glass. I can smell the mango as I type this before I’ve even picked up the glass. has some sweetness on the tongue as well as a hint of funk. Really nice.

Pours a beautiful clear straw yellow until the settled yeast is added to the glass and fills it with a nice haze. Firm white head that retains itself for quite some time. Aroma’s are tropical with pineapple mango and bready notes as well. Smells bright and sunny. Flavors are good sweetness upfront followed by a rustic dryness. Mouthfeel is rich and rounded at first then grainy dry with some spiciness on the finish. Good balance and big flavors on this imperial saison.
