Our goal at Funkwerks is to make good beer for our customers. Our intention was not to disrespect the Māori people or their culture in naming our Māori King beer. Out of respect, we are re-branding this beer as Tropic King. This is our new Imperial Saison! Bursting with a lot of fruity tropical characteristics of passionfruit, mango, and peach from the New Zealand Rakau hops we used. Combined with the pepper and Ginger flavors produced by our house yeast, this is a flavor extravaganza.

Capped 750 from LetsPour.com. Pours translucent gold with a creamy white head. Aroma is earthy/spicy multiple fruits. Full bodied. Flavor is earthy/spicy multiple fruits. I’d say it’s much more tropical fruit than anything else. Fruit wise. The rest is earthy, approaching barnyard. Love the ginger notes. Finishing so complex that I will not attempt the details. Lovely, lovely, ale.

Bottle via trade with brokephibroke. Cloudy, effervescent apricot body, thick, puffy off-white head. Tart, estery nose with pineapple and hints of banana. Sweet, creamy body with pineapple, banana, and some sweet and spicy, perfumy floral notes. Very nice, a bit on the sweet side, borderline Tripel.

Bottle labeled tropic king. Pour has a rich golden color and a one finger off white head that held well. Aroma has mild tropical fruit, yeast, esters, and grains. Mouth feel is medium light and there is plenty of carbonation. Flavor has loads of yeasty character, light pepper, light tropics, grains, and some bitterness on the back end.

Had this at Where The Wild Beers Are. Pours a lightly hazed amber with a thin white head. Oxidized tropical fruit, faint paper. Light pineapple, funky mango. Musk, wheat. Soft musk and light funk on the finish.

Mildly bitter finish and aftertaste that lingers briefly. This beer is juicy in a good way. Moderate carbonation, medium body, and crisp texture. A very good, fruity saison.
