COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The wedding beer! Our brew master, Gordon Schuck and his bride brewed this beer for their special day. German malts and German noble hops, a lower attenuating yeast, and cool fermentation results in a malty beer with a bit of nuttiness when it warms up. This beer is in the French, Biere de Garde style.

Pours clear chestnut with a medium beige head, very fine clinging lacing. Aromas of toffee, toast, nuts, banana, cherry, and hay, with a little funk and earthy undertones. Medium light body, crisp, lightly dry. Mildly sweet, a hint of tartness, then mild bitter. Well balanced and drinkable. One of the less funky brews from Funkwerks.

Pour is dark red with white head on tap, aroma has notes of tart lemon, honey, some herbal notes, very odd aroma overall. Taste is a bit nicer, with notes of grain, biscuit, sweet earthy notes, some hints of herbs, grass, finishing fairly dry.

draft. clear amber. fruity & sweet nose and approach; chewy and syrupy throughout the drink; husky with moderately rough malt (as all of Funkwerk’s beers other than the wit tend to have). unpleasant saccharine cherry syrup and caramel malt flavors, underattenuated body and a bit goopy. candied lingering sweetness late. far too artificially sweet for 6%. and nuttiness? not that I can tell. when warmer: frothy carbonation across the middle but still has a strong lingering saccharine sweetness and sourish cranberry juice medicinal flavor. can’t say it’s very enjoyable.

UPDATED: NOV 12, 2011 Tap @ Funkwerks. Hazy, fairly bright, reddish orange appearance with a tan head. Grassy noble hoppy, slight fruitiness, slight nuttiness, mild caramel malty, somewhat odd aroma. Light caramel, nutty, fairly malty flavor with a grassy, straw hoppy flavor. Reminds me more of a mild German Dunkel than a BdG.
