COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This high gravity Saison starts with a blend of Belgian and German malts combined with cane sugar and brown sugar from Malawi and rounded out with German, Belgian, and Czech hops. Flavor notes of candied apricots, black pepper, rum and ginger are purely from a unique Saison yeast strain and a warm primary fermentation. The finish is dry and crisp with a noticeable alcohol warming. Brewed by Jeff Blackburn at Funkwerks.

Hmmm, so this one is a little odd - a bit of molasses and brown sugar, plus a touch of smoky phenols - quite a bit of pepper - candi sugar sweetness is clean but a bit high - not usually a fan of sweet saisons - mild tartness and citrus from the yeast tries to balance, but the sweetness is rather heavy - loads of peppery phenols in the finish - alcohol is well masked - it’s okay, but too sweet for me.

On tap at the brewery. Pours with a lightly hazed golden hued body with a frothy white head. Aromas are grassy, ginger, pepper, phenol and a bit of dried fruit ester. Flavors of dried stone fruits, pepper, grassy, thistle, lively bubbles, dry and very tasty!

On tap at Freshcraft. Pours a deep golden color with a medium frothy white head that fell to a nice ring leaving some light lacing. Aroma has a big barnyard funky earthiness with pepper and an underliying sugary sweetness. Taste follows the nose but is much sweeter with candied sugar and a citrus presence. Alcohol is present but not overpowering. Medium bodied and smooth with a crisp dry finish.

Draft at Funkwerks. Pours a deeper shade of gold/orange. Fluffy white head that sticks to the end. Nose is fresh and fruity, lots of pepper notes and citrus. On tasting, the alcohol is somewhat apparent in this one, nice and dry tartness comes across and works with the faint caramel notes. Refreshing and crisp, especially surprising given the abv. Really enjoyable beer, though a bit big for my tastes.

Tap. Pours clear golden orange with a medium, fizzy white head, medium retention with good lacing. Aroma is farmhouse yeast, Belgian candi sugar, fruity banana esters, and no hops. Flavor is malt dominant, light citrus, fruity esters, light hops, spicy and pepper with a dry finish. Medium-full body, medium warmth and carbonation.

On tap at Funkwerks poured a hazy gold with a lasting white head. Aroma of horseblanket, straw, lemon, pepper and light earthiness. Palate was light bodied and smooth with a dry finish. Flavors of straw, earthiness, lemon and pepper with a smooth dry lingering funky finish.

On tap at the Funkwerks tap room in Ft. Collins, CO. Light orange pour with a white head. Nose of Belgian candy sugar and very light funk. Sweet flavor, but not too sweet, with a light citrus finish. Alcohol unnoticeable. An excellent saison.

Tap @ brewery. Golden yellow orange appearance with a white/off-white head. Slightly resiny hops, candy sugar, dark citrus fruits, light pepper in the nose. Pretty sweet- candy sugar/brown sugar, pepper, lightly resiny, citrus fruits, somewhat acidic, and somewhat floral flavor. A little too sweet for my taste.
