Named after a distinctive New Zealand hop, this single-hop saison has a subtle aroma of white grapes and a hint of spice from our house saison yeast. An addition of Muscat grape must during fermentation plays into the grape aromas from the hops and helps dry out the finish. This dry, refreshing saison pairs perfectly with warm weather!

I normally expect a beer that is named after the hop variety used to be, well, hoppy but that is not really the case here, which is fine by me but might leave some dissapointed. This is a moderately cloudy brew w/ a thick, fine-bubbled head. It’s got some light banana notes along w/ some cloves and baked bread in the nose. It’s got a nice creamy texture w/ medium carb. It’s rather dry and fairly flavorful, though it drinks lighter than its 7.5% alcohol would have you expect. This is a solid beer but if you are seeking hops, look elsewhere.

Draft. Winey and light sulfur aroma. Some hay. Taste is subtle in grapiness. Kind of bland actually. Not bad just not getting much hope in this one.

Lightly hazy bright yellow color with a dense white head. Decent aroma of spice and some obvious grape flavors. Definitely dry. But, I was disappointed by the relative lack of depth and finish in this. On tap at brewery.

Hazy light golden with a thin foamy white head. Large funky saison esters with some melon rind and hay and a subtle white wine bite. Spicy and estery flavor with a punchy white wine tone and some oak and gentle saison Belgian bitterness and a bit of hay and lemon and wheat. Very complex saison. And tasty. And refreshing.

This beer must’ve been fantastic to begin with because it was still pretty damn good after trying an older bottle. Lots of zing in the aroma and a pleasantly dry finish. A bit musty in flavor at the end, but I chalked that up to age.

Thanks Niels for this 750ml bottle. Murky darker yellow pour with a little fluffy white head. Light fruits, mainly banana’s on the nose. Pick up some white wine flavor, lemon zest, banana’s, and grass. Light body. Overall - not a bad beer.

UPDATED: NOV 30, 2014 Bottle. Hazy pale gold with a short-lived white head. Signature Nelson Sauvin fruity nose of melon rind, white grape, bubble gum, fruit cocktail overload. Pear and banana yeast esters. Clean fermentation. Medium body, sweet and effervescent with relatively high bitterness and tart pulpiness that I would guess is the grape must. With that the finishing hops seem overdone.

750ml bottle. Hazy pale orange with a thin white head. Slightly musty dried apricot, very very light lemon, wheat, mild, moderate carbonation, becomes dry with a hint of sweetness, some green grape skin.

Samples at Funkwerks dinner at Birch & Barley on 5/5/14. Clear pale yellow color. Aroma of dried dusty white grape skins. Taste is fruity, dusty, sweaty grapes. Tasty.
