This delicious creation was truly a product of creativity, ingenuity, and luck. Last summer, we took a test batch of our Berliner Weisse style summer ale, Provincial, that didn’t quite hit gravity, and decided to have some fun with it! We added a heavy dose of raspberries in this sessionable, refreshingly tart beer. The end result was so delicious we decided to recreate it! This delightfully tart beer is stimulating and refreshing, with a citrusy raspberry aroma which transitions to a subtly sweet and tart finish.

Tap at the brewery - hazy pinkish pour - nose is all earthy raspberry and mild lactic tartness - frothy, soft.carbonation in the mouth - medium tart, moderate lactic notes, bright, quenching acids - raspberry character arrives late - it’s earthy and equal parts tart and sweet - this is followed by soft wheat tones - more of a fruit beer than a sour, but very refreshing.

Pours a hazy pink color with a small head that fades immediately. Not an attractive beer at all. Looks like pepto mixed with water. Aroma is slightly fruity, and chalky. The taste is very very very light raspberries soaked in water. There’s a very light brett chalky taste and very light sourness. Kind of gross.

I had a couple of ~2 oz samples at the Boulevardia Taps & Tastes in Kansas City, Missouri. The pour is hazy pink golden with a smallish white pinkish head. The aroma is tart sour raspberry, bit of general cheese funk. The taste is a nice blend of the bright raspberry fruit, which is tart sour and sweet fruit, and the yeast Brett notes of earth, funk and hay. The palate is light bodied, active carbonation and a funk sweet raspberry fruit finish. Nice one.

On tap @ Avery Sour Fest 2014. Pour is bright pink with a fluffy white head and great lacing. Raspberries, tannic, cracker malt, biscuits, strawberry skins, fruit pit and grass in the aroma. Taste is light raspberry, straw, lemon zest, lactic sourness, dough, light spice and bready malt. Medium body with high carbonation. Pretty nice quaffer. Would definitely drink again.

750 ml bottle poured a cloudy dark pink with a lasting pink head. Aromas of raspberry, straw and barnyard funk. Palate was light bodied and crisp with a dry finish. Flavors of raspberry, straw and light yeast with a crisp dry lingering raspberry finish.

Draft. Hazy dark pink, no head. Aka is slightly tart, but of fruit and bubblegum. Taste is a bit tart, really sweet, and otherwise bland. No raspberry taste. Really disappointing.
