4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Dickinsonbeer (5075) - Hoboken, USA - SEP 4, 2011
Bottle. Pours a slight hazed deep yellow gold with high carbonation and a fluffy nice head. Aroma is orange tangerine yeasty motes with some mix of tropical and citry and earthy hops, good pils crackery bready malts. Wth some saline earthy phenol as well. Flavor is cracker, fresh pls malt, cobwebby sea foam, must with freshnherbal floral hops, tangerine yeastiness, somehwo it all works and is extremely lively and dry in the finish. The fg is defintiely dropping in the bottle as it comtinues to ferment as the carbonation can get very high. Extremely bad for shipping, and the caps arent holding, but otherwise this beer is phenomenal.

Sampled at Where the Wild Beers Are, Brooklyn, 2012. The aroma is hay, leather, plastic. The appearance is hazy gold, white head. The flavor is manure, hay, horseblanket, like taking a deep breath at the ripest farmhouse. The finish is spicy, peppery. Interesting beer, not bad overall.

Thanks to Jason for sharing this one. Pours a hazy yellow with a white head. Nose is light malt, some citrus, some pepper, and some light funk. Flavor is similar- light malt, light citrus, some funk, and just a lovely, well-made and very sippable saison. Light to medium and body and very nice overall.

750ml bottle that my sister-in-law brought back from Denver, thanks Alyssa! Pours a hazy, deeper gold, light orange tinted body with a big, three finger-width, foamy, white head that dissipates slowly and leaves a nice, sticky lacing. Aroma is yeasty with soft, grainy pale malts giving off a very light bready sweetness along with a good amount of pepper and dry grass. Some fruits come out more as this warms with a light pear and some citruses with barely a hint of tartness. Flavor is similar with a bit more of a distinct fruit tartness up front. Pear and citrus lemons with lots of spicy yeast and pepper along with a grainy, slightly bready pale malt backing. Pale malts remain smooth throughout with just a touch of sweetness along with a light herbal hop spice. Finishes dry and lightly bitter with lots of yeast as well as some pepper, grass, and fruit with a light tartness balanced nicely with a light, bready pale malt. Lengthy aftertaste following a lighter body with a soft, but lively carbonation. Overall, a really solid saison. Very yeasty with some pepper, a light hop, and fruits with a touch of tartness, but really easy drinking with a soft, grainy pale malt backing with a light sweetness. Good beer.

Utterly delicious take on Saison. Cloudy gold with an orange tint. Dried herbs on the nose which one could sniff all day. Medium bodies with balanced savory and tart flavors accentuated by lively carbonation. Excellent.

750 ml. bottle picked up at Pringle’s in Fort Collins. Spicy Saison aroma coming off a deeply hazy tangerine yellow body with a soapy white head that’s explosively effervescent. Coriander and pepper spices with citrus overtones followed by a slightly vegetal green pepper taste in the back that’s really nice. Bone dry and palate cleansing yet with a medium body with bready malt undertones. Finishes like it starts with spice and earthy funk.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 Rustyham (1396) - Nashville, Tennessee, USA - APR 9, 2012
Average saison, flowery, Brett funk. Slight citrus. Easy drinking. In this day and age, I want something in my saison that I can identify. this is good and smooth, and not that I want to take away form it, but i’d like something to stand out and remind me of the beer i’m drinking when it comes to such a subtle style.

Bottle. Pours a slightly hazy bright gold body with a one finger fizzy white head that had excellent retention due to fairly active carbonation. The nose is nicely rustic and slightly earthy with restrained spice notes. A light touch of hops, some fruity notes, a wonderful yeast profile. The flavor is very solid, the base beer and the yeast are showcased, the spices are used as accents, and they primarily come out on the finish. Dry and just a little funky, the wheat and bready malts are really soft and delicate before the spicy and lively finish comes on. Medium bodied for the style with nice fizzy lively carbonation that enhances the dryness and spice on the finish. Pretty nice Saison. The beers I’ve had from these guys are pretty solid.

Sampled at an esbls tasting. Hazy 10 carat gold with a funky white head. This is finky smelling, and even a bit fishy. The flavor is interesting funk with peppery spice. The finish is a nice zing of hops. Very nice.

750 ml bottle; thanks Brandon; pale orange with huge eggy white head; nice spicy and lemony aromas; dry lemon peels, almost spritzy mouthfeel from the heavy carbonation; crisp with a lingering bitterness; a little sharper finish the more I drink; stale lemons, dry malt and faint spice; decent overall but a tad sharp for me; not spicy by any means, but drinks with a sharp yeasty bite; carbonation is way high and detracts quite a bit IMO
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Denver2012 (24) - - MAR 4, 2012
UPDATED: MAR 10, 2012 Pours a hazy dark yellow with thick creamy white head. Great lacing, like a thick wall of it. An inviting aroma of yeast, dough, sweet juciy fruit (apples, grapes, orange), even a little floral. A really nice aroma all in all. Flavor is refreshing and not quite as sweet as the aroma might have lead me to expect. The yeast is the star and lemon the important sidekick. A touch of bitterness in the close and some apple in the finish. Moutfeel is dry, carbonated, and medium bodied. I had been wanting to try this one for a long time now and happy to finally get aound to it. Definitely a very nice beer that one could easily drink a lot of. I was hoping to be able to call this my favorite from Funkwerks but that honor still goes to Tropic King.
