COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Specter is a golden Belgian ale aged in French Cognac oak barrel. Sweetness from the Pilsener malt complements the apricot notes in the aroma. This continues into the flavor where oak tannins balance the sweetness leaving a smooth and delicate finish with slight warmness.

750 ml bottle. Pours clear straw yellow with a medium frothy white head that retains well and laces the glass.

The aroma is sweet sugary floral malts with earthy yeast and some vinous wood.

The flavor is sweet sugary bready malts and some light tropical fruits and pepper with some dry vinous notes in the finish. The mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with smooth carbonation.

Overall, a nice Belgian. It ’s a bit too sweet for me especially as it warms.

The pour is a hazy golden color with an average, white, pillowy head which is somewhat lasting and leaves scattered Belgian lace. The nose is certainly sweet with toasty oak, crab apples, apricots, light candi sugar, and dusty yeast notes. The flavor is similar with some herbal notes, apples and apricots, dusty yeast, dry oak shavings, hints of vanilla, and some cinnamon bread. The palate is medium to full, warming, velvety, and less than lively. The finish dries out a bit with oak shavings, toasty cinnamon bread, and lingering fruit notes. Actually a fairly nice base with nice sweetness and fruitiness with balancing oak and herbal notes. The cognac barrels may have been a bit overbearing at times but the oak was nice. Not bad but not one of my favorites from FW.

Pour out of 750 mL bottle, slightly hazy orange pour with fluffy lasting white head. Aroma brought notes of peach, pear, apricot, some slight pils malt with cracker, biscuit notes, some esters, oak notes come through, slight hint of sweet cognac with a slight boozy note, sweet slight note as well with a hint of spice. Taste is a mix of lots of oak, hints of a slight spirit barrel with some spice, yeast and white fruit notes, touch of white grape and spicy slightly hot notes, finishing fairly sweet but slightly boozy. Tasty, but I think a bit of age would do it well to settle out and meld some of the flavors.

Bottle at home shared with friends, courtesy of Ryan. Thanks Man! Poured a hazy lemon color with a small white head that seems to linger. Aroma is woody, light alcohol, white grapes, tannin, spicy yeast, citrus, and bread. Taste is white wine, spicy yeast, clove, white pepper, and lemon with a light alcoholic warmth on the finish. Medium mouthfeel with fizzy carbonation. White-wine characteristics, yet spicy and belgian-esque, pretty fun beer.

Bottle @ Stephen’s house. Thanks! Milky yellow, cloudy appearance with a white head that dissipates pretty quickly. White grape, peach, apricot, yeasty, citrusy, bready aroma with a slight booziness. Light oak, white grape, apple, pear, yeasty, grainy pils flavor with a slightly dry, straw finish. Kind of interesting but somewhat boozy.
