3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
From notes. Tasted at a tasting at Curtis’s old house, probably around early 2012, from a 750mL bottle. Pours dark amber with a massive beige head that recedes very slowly to thin lace. The nose is dry brett funk with brown sugar, caramel, and darkly toasted bread. The flavor is lightly sweet caramel, brown sugar with some banana and a bunch of dry, brett funk. The body is full with average carbonation and a long funky and caramel malt finish.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
750 ml bottle from 2011, number 191 of 675.
Aroma is fairly fruity with some red apples, over ripe stone fruit and cherries. Light pepper phenolics with some light oak notes. Some toasted bread, caramel and raisins. Light honey notes as it warms along with some burnt sugar.
Pours a murky amber brown with a big, fluffy, brown head with low retention. Medium sized legs with moderate lacing.
Flavor is surprisingly sweet with a moderate amount of caramel and toffee. Medium light toasted bread and raisins. Moderate fruitiness with red apples, more stone fruit and cherries. Light citrus note. Medium light bitterness with medium oak notes. Moderate phenolics with pepper and a cinnamon like character. Light alcohol spice.
Mouthfeel is medium bodied with fairly high carbonation. Low astringency and medium low alcohol warmth.
Overall one of the better beers I have tasted from Funkwerks; a bit sweet but it has nice fruit and phenolic notes. Good malt character that works with the esters and phenolics.

3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Murky brown pour with a tan head. The aroma is full of brett with some dark fruit and toffee notes. The flavor is different. I get some strong cherry and grape notes as well as some leather, brett and toffee. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
22 oz bottle acquired via trade long ago. Opened at Cellar Kill Night. Pours a deep copper brown hue, firmer haze. Copper brown glow throughout is darker but shows some nice life. Frothy tannish head atop stays as a nice layer, sticks around and laces ok. Aromas present dark fruit, a bit of brown sugar, pear and toast. A bit of toffee sweetness, yeasty spiciness, decent oak and touches of vanilla, a bit tannic with fruit, sweetness. Mellow spirit. Gentle sweet darker bread, a bit crusty, fruity. Initial is fuzzy and tannic off the bat, a decent oak presence meets some yeastiness. Not as sweet off the bat, the body is a bit lighter than I expected. Middle starts to take more oak, Bourbon spirit and gentle spiciness. Toasty and biscuit elements, a bit of carmelization and toffee. Some spiciness, gentle fruit works in. Apple, some pear, with yeastiness, some dryness as we move into the backend. More tannic, not overwhelming but firm. Backend is a bit doughy, some fruit and grain, touches of yeast as the barrel tapers out. Lingering fruit, pear and apple, as we finish up, a bit of dried fruit, touch of preserves and dryness, yeast as we finish. The front end offers some life but might be a bit too barrel slanted for me. A bit vague as we finish. Ok. I guess it’s a better overall beer than Scepter.

2.7 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Stale funky aroma, spoiled oak or fruit? Brown body, thin off-white lace. Lactic palate, wheaty grain base, barrels are there but don't create an impression. Funkwerks can do (and has brewed) better.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle from Scott - thanks! Muddy brown pour with a huge, lingering froth of tan foam. Aroma is dry oak, dark fruit, light funk, vanilla, and grain. Taste is raisin and plum with dark malt, some bourbon and vanilla, earthy grain, slight funk, and a sweeter, cherry or perhaps tart flavor. Slightly coating mouthfeel with a fairly clean finish. Funky dark beer. Nice.

Pour out of 750 mL bottle, gushed a slight bit but was a slow gusher, even after a pour it kept gushing. Dark brownish black pour, nice fine bubbled tan head, laced well. Aroma brought notes of nice dark fruits, slight vanilla, toffee, bourbon notes, hints of earth, some yeasty notes with a slight roasted character, touch of red grape in there as well. Taste is a mix of dark fruits, yeast, some spice notes, hints of a touch of grain, toffee and molasses notes, hints of an earthy and slight roasted note, finishing fairly sweet, slightly spicy. Pretty nice stuff.
