COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This limited batch is a dark strong saison read brewed in October in collaboration with Mile High Wine & Spirits. A portion of the batch was aged in oak bourbon barrels, which was then blended with the non-barrel aged batch. This result is a full-bodied beer with flavors of chocolate and dark fruits that are balanced by the spicy oak tannins. Rich aromas of vanilla and oak linger in the dry finish, making this beer incredibly drinkable.

Pours a dark amber color with a khaki head. Sweet malt dominates the nose. Toffee and vanilla give the beer substantial sweetness, as do dark fruit aromas. A mild banana note, some oak, and a hint of yeast and spice. The flavor is full of dark fruit, toffee, caramel, and vanilla. There is a hint of alcohol, light spices, and some banana. Might be just a hint of dark chocolate. Not much of a saison/farmhouse beer as the label indicates, but quite good.

Tap @ Funkwerks. Cloudy reddish brown appearance with a brown head. Fairly spicy, dark fruity (plum, fig, dark grape), a touch tangy, light bourbon, moderate barnyard aroma that’s actually fairly complex. Soft mouth feel. Leather, fig, plum, spicy, a bit musty, chocolate, rich oak, light to moderate bourbon, rich dark toffee belgian yeasty flavor. Very interesting brew.

UPDATED: JAN 17, 2012 draft. cola brown. oxidized wet cardboard, nutty plum syrup and bourbon / rum / well whiskey nose with buggy acid and harsh and direct ethanol. chewy, full body, contains good froth but also abrasive hot alcohol and strong oxidized wood and bourbon. silky and smooth until a hot bite and burn late. astringent tea notes with browned banana and caramel chews abound. coconut aroma and finish from the oak. soggy cereal grains and wet cardboard lingering late. not that enjoyable. and they call it a saison?

Bottle number 395 of 675 thanks to ratman! Pours with a murky, very dark brown body and a large, fluffy, khaki head that leaves good lace and has great retention. Aromas are of dark fruits, spicy oak, bourbon and a boat load of tannins. A lot of vinous aromas as well, red wine, earthy, jammy. Plums, currants, cherries, vanilla, saw dust and a lot of wood. Flavors are big in every way. Huge bourbon character with associated notes of vanillin, spicy oak, coconut. Lots of dark fruits, big alcohol, caramelization and bready malt. Long oaky duration. Cherries, fig, currants, boozy, dates, fruit rollup, leather. Cherry and chocolate. Earthier, dusty, leathery, and phenolic notes push themselves to the fore front as this beer warms. Tannic on the mouthfeel, pretty dry but backed up with a wall of alcohol. Medium to fuller bodied. Unique stuff and tasty for sure.

Bottle thanks to Tom. Pours a clear deep reddish brown with a brown head that dissipates slowly to the edges. Aroma has a good amount of dark grains and fruit with a bit of backing funk and barrel. Flavor starts with a hint of bourbon with dark grains and bread with a hint of funk.

Pour out of 750 mL bottle, gushed a slight bit but was a slow gusher, even after a pour it kept gushing. Dark brownish black pour, nice fine bubbled tan head, laced well. Aroma brought notes of nice dark fruits, slight vanilla, toffee, bourbon notes, hints of earth, some yeasty notes with a slight roasted character, touch of red grape in there as well. Taste is a mix of dark fruits, yeast, some spice notes, hints of a touch of grain, toffee and molasses notes, hints of an earthy and slight roasted note, finishing fairly sweet, slightly spicy. Pretty nice stuff.

750 ml bottle thanks to Craig. Pours a dark murky brown color with a medium off-white. A great roast and oaky, some sour aromas. A rich flavorful brew that simply defies characterization; oak, light roast, dry, sweet. Very unusual.
