A delicious Belgian Dubbel born from the love between The Mayor of Old Town staff and Funkwerks. Conceived while Brad was spooning Gordon (or Gordon was spooning Brad we try not get personal with those details) after a night of too many Hofbraus at The Mayor. We flew to Belgium and snuck in late at night to scrape and cultivate yeast off the walls of the Rochefort brewery. We were caught by the head brewer and had to kidnap him. He is now dressed and posing as our bar manager. Our former bar manager is somewhere now, we are not sure where. If you see her let her know we wish her well. The Mayor and Funkwerks‘ collaboration beer ‘The Son of Nothing’, is now on tap at the Mayor. The Son of Nothing is an 8% ABV Belgian Dubbel. The name and logo are nods to the working title for Pink Floyd’s epic song Echoes which appeared on the album Meddle. Echoes was played during the tapping. The entire idea for the project originated while Kevin was spooning David Gilmour (or a poster of David, again…we do not get into the personal details)

On tap @ Mayor of Old Town. Mahogany pour with a khaki head. A bit metallic on the nose. Some caramel, chocolate, and dark fruit. Booze, roast, and some chocolate. Flavor is sweet caramel, dark fruit, and cola. Roast, chocolate, and alcohol. Fairly metallic.

Bottle shared at Exira Beer Summit 2012. Thanks to adnielsen for sharing. Pours a dark brown with off white head. Metallic, toffee, slight nutty, malty aroma. Dark malt, sweet, toffee, dark fruits flavors. I’m a big fan of Funkwerks, but I’m not too impressed with this one. A little metallic aromas and flavors.

UPDATED: NOV 24, 2012 Tap @ The Mayor of Old Town Foco. Pours a hazy dark reddish brown appearance with a tan head. Toffee, coffee, caramel, grassy, zippy coffee creamer aroma. Metallic, tangy, a touch fruity toffee, mild chocolate aroma. Really a strong metallic note that turned me off. (3.1)

Bottle @ Exira Beer Summit III. The metallic note wasn’t overly obnoxious this time but the beer is a bit cloying. (3.2)
