Had this during the 2011 Shenandoah Throwdown. Pours a clear ruby tinged brown with a thin beige head. Soft sweet fruit, light toast and malt. Sweet fruity malt, big sticky malt and warm alcohol. Fruit and malt, very sweet long malty finish.

651mL unlabeled hand bottle at Shenandoah Throwdown. The pour is a deep amber brown with a healthy yellow head. Nice retention. Nose is fresh air, clouds (if they have a smell), sweet pound cake, angel food cake...moving to sweet cherry, husky grain, and orange sherbet as it warms. Interesting. Taste is huge brown sugar, sherbet, small tannic bitterness, small tartness, and mealy red apple. Sugar bomb.

Growler. Murky brown pour with a white head. I got the last pour (yeast sediment). Fruit esters and banana aromas. Fruit esters, caramel malt, raisin, and plum flavors.

Brown with tan highlights. On the nose there is black fruit, toffee, raisins and candy sugar. Full bodied with medium carbonation. The flavor leans towards black cherries and plums with hints of raisins and nuts. This is defiantly on the sweet side but still stays pretty drinkable.

on tap-pours a tan head and mahogany color. Aroma is sweet medium/dark malt-roasty, spice, dark fruit-cherry. Taste is sweet mediu/dark malt-roasty/caramel, dark fruit-cherry/raisin/plum, spice-cinnamon, wood. OK effervescence.

Bottle. Pours a murky mahogany, appears bottle conditioned with a large long lasting, foamy khaki head. Nose is massive banana, with some noticable clove and tons of caramel and phenolic spiciness. Nice. Flavor is where it goes a bit wrong. Slightly metallic up front, with a large amount of carbonation. Settles into a really tasty sweet caramel and dark fruit finish. Banana pops up again at the end in the flavor. Complex, and good but the metallic note up front is a bit troubling, the intense carbonation also thins out the palate more than I think is representative of the beer.

Draft… Cloudy, deep, dark ruby ale with a small, short-lived, tan head. The nose is of dried dark fruits – dates, figs, raisins – underripe banana, dark candy sugar, pear and toffee with whispers of black bread and clove. Full-bodied with a syrupy mouthfeel and tingly carbonation. The flavor presents sweet dark fruits, pear, toffee and dark rock candy. Under-attenuated, but when you’re dealing with quads and Belgian strong ales, how can you really tell when the level of sweetness is not entirely intentional? Trick question. The answer is: only when the brewer tells you; which, in this case, he did. Finishes sweet, malty and dark fruity.

12oz bottle shared with some new friends in Chicago. Trappist beers have never really been my go to style but this one was quite amazing. Dark color with a wee little bit of head. Sweet aroma with hints of brown sugar, caramel, and sweet malts. Flavor was sweet as well, carries just as much as the aroma, if not more. A great job Ryan and Kevin!! Keep up the good work fellas.

HUGE thanks to Casey for this tick that hasn’t even been released yet... dark brown body with a light tan head, small but nice cap stays for a long time... the nose is awesome, smells exactly like Rochefort 6, candi sugar, brown sugar, plums, dark fruits, and caramel, really nice... the taste is much sweeter than the nose, tons of brown sugar and molasses, not balanced but super easy to drink... try this
