4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 jrallen34 (3445) - Chicago, USA - JUN 4, 2011
HUGE thanks to Casey for this tick that hasn’t even been released yet... dark brown body with a light tan head, small but nice cap stays for a long time... the nose is awesome, smells exactly like Rochefort 6, candi sugar, brown sugar, plums, dark fruits, and caramel, really nice... the taste is much sweeter than the nose, tons of brown sugar and molasses, not balanced but super easy to drink... try this

This poured a murky dark red to brown with a beige head. Aroma was lots and ltos fo dark candy sugar, some dark fruits and estery yeast. Flavor was less of the belgian yeast character and more on the sweet dark candy sugar, very cloying and definitely a sugar bomb. Ehh

Hazy brown pour with a thin tan head. Cherry bubblegum flavor. Peppery with notes of melon. Sweet bubblegum and cherry flavor. Bitter finish. Too sticky.
3.9 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 blomster (129) - Göteborg, SWEDEN - SEP 17, 2011
Bottle from darkguardian, thanks Chris! Pours a murky reddish brown with a huge, tan head.
Aroma of prunes, dates, raisins, brown sugar, spicy yeast. Very appealing!
Again the dark fruits in the taste, a little alcohol, brown sugar, sweet caramel. Damn it’s sweet! Makes me lick my lips without even thinking about it. The heavy sweetness is almost too much, but is thankfully balanced with some alcohol heat and fruity yeast, otherwise it would have been a syrupy mess.
Drinking a whole bomber of this by myself is almost a bit to much. Almost. Bottle empty...

Had this at the brewpub yesterday. Review from notes. Received in a snifter. I was told this is a Quad by the bartender.
3.5 A: Somewhere between dark brown and black color. Came sans head, so no comment there.
3.5 S: Absolutely jam packed with candi sugar. After that dark caramel and light spiciness from the Belgian yeast. Only minimally fruity (or perhaps much of it is covered by the candi sugar) with just a touch of prune and tobacco.
3.0 T: Again, lots of candi sugar and I have no trouble stating there is simply way too much. The residual sweetness left behind is far too strong, making the beer borderline cloying. Dark caramel malts again with minor fruitiness.
4.0 M: Medium body. Good spritzy carbonation. Sweetness lingers into the aftertaste.
2.0 D: Decent tasting beer, but too sweet throughout the whole experience. Even with friends helping, it was difficult to drink the whole snifter.
Serving type: on-tap

Thanks to beerman6686, I had an opportunity to try this at the 2nd Pgh Tasting on the 2nd. It was from an unlabeled big brown bottle. Looks like cream soda and has a head like cream soda too. The big head fades but it leaves a continuous quarter inch layer. Has a somewhat flowery sweet perfumy aroma about it. Perhaps the aroma is even a little alarming. Taste is not as strong as the 9.2% would indicate and it hides its alky content well. Flavor is quite unique; rootbeer, birch beer perhaps even clove in there. Funky fer sure but not in a lambic kinda way. Again, no way is this 9%+! Odd things in the taste of this barefoot buddha buddy. Rather mild but yet leathery at times. Finish is almost soda pop in nature. Not bad overall. Either I am becoming null to these high alky beers or perhps these beers are just getting better. Big thanks to Dan for the chance to taste this muthhah buddah.

Had this during the 2011 Shenandoah Throwdown. Pours a clear ruby tinged brown with a thin beige head. Soft sweet fruit, light toast and malt. Sweet fruity malt, big sticky malt and warm alcohol. Fruit and malt, very sweet long malty finish.

651mL unlabeled hand bottle at Shenandoah Throwdown. The pour is a deep amber brown with a healthy yellow head. Nice retention. Nose is fresh air, clouds (if they have a smell), sweet pound cake, angel food cake...moving to sweet cherry, husky grain, and orange sherbet as it warms. Interesting. Taste is huge brown sugar, sherbet, small tannic bitterness, small tartness, and mealy red apple. Sugar bomb.
