1.8 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 6/20
On tap at Churchkey. Served in a mini snifter. Pours a clear golden-yellow color with a white head. Thatís about all that resembles an IPA in this one. The nose is just over-the-top fresh ginger with nothing else. This is carbonated ginger liquid. I canít get any hop aroma. To the taste. Nope, no hops there either. Just more ginger and some carbonation. Very seltzer-like. Some ginger spice and heat; no real bitterness. The ginger is done nicely, but for what purpose? It overrides what I can assume is beer underneath and leaves nothing in the way of complexity, beer flavor, or even any real general enjoyment.

3.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Draft at Churchkey for the Bluejacket/Funky Buddha/Cigar City event during SAVOR week. Poured an orange color, wispy head. Aroma was seriously ginger - like ginger ginger ginger. Like I was about to take a bite into pickled ginger while eating sushi. Flavor is heavy on the ginger, with other more minor spice characters, but the beer is a bit one-note for me here.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Tap at CK. Murky deep orange pour with no head. Nose is mega mega ginger root. Taste is mega ginger root and lemongrass with cloven spice bitterness like cinnamon stick tannins. Very nice. Mega ginger character. Slap your face. Good palate cleanser as well to obliterate the bluejacket/CCB circus peanut beer taste.

On tap at Capones. Pours slightly murky amber-orange. Crazy ginger aroma with slight pine hops. Basically smells like a ginger root. Overwhelmingly ginger taste with hints of earthy hops, and like citrus. Very unique.

3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
UPDATED: JUN 9, 2012 Murky orange-amber, thin off white head, no lacing. Aroma is straight ginger with the faintest bits of grassy and tea-like hops. Flavor is nearly all ginger as it trumps virtually all of whatever hop character was in the beer. Medium to thin bodied, moderate carbonation which is accentuated by the prickly nature of the ginger. I am not sure Iíd call this an IPA as you donít get much of any hop character and a soft malt base is completely washed out by the ginger.
