Shhhh! This double brown ale would make a certain candy-maker very jealous! Waves of peanut butter and chocolate layer in this rich, bold, big brown ale to create a unique drinking experience.

Pours a dark black and opaque with a one finger beige head that quickly settles into a thin, lasting ring. Spotty lacing left behind. I don’t know how they do it but Funky Buddha nailed another aroma. Crazy nutty, chunky peanut butter along with sweet and roasted chocolate notes. Hints of nutella, silky chocolate and roasted peanut but still has the feel of a brown ale. Roasted and sweet malt notes with dark chocolate, toast, toffee and oatmeal. They really nailed the chocolate and especially peanut butter characteristics while retaining the brown ale elements. Medium bodied with soft carbonation and a strong chocolate covered roasted peanut flavor that’s countered by roasted malt, dark chocolate, toast, oatmeal and coffee bean. It’s amazing how the chocolate and peanuts stand out without turning it into an overly sweet dessert beer. This could have easily turned into a cloying novelty beer but they remained true to the style, creating a really interesting experimental beer that’s very flavorful and easy to drink.

Clear brown colour, off-white head. Aroma of chocolate, peanuts (m&m’s), malts and caramel. Quite sweet flavour, peanuts, malts. Finish peanuts, malts and caramel.
(from draught @ CBC blue session, Copenhagen 2014. Thanks for sharing today’s beers, RateBeer crew!)

On tap at the brewery. Clear deep red-brown; a decent head and some lacing. Aroma: sweet and highly similar to Reece’s Peanut Butter Cups, meaning a load of milk chocolate with fainter peanut biutter. The flavor follows. A bit sweet, as suspected. O: not a fan of Reeces but I usually love peanut butter beers (usually stouts or porters in my experience). This one pales by comparison. but is still enjoyable and certainly worth trying.

Doesn’t exactly come together well for me. Lots of peanut - more like real peanut than the butter. Pours mahogany with ok head and lacing. A little too sweet for me. Tap at brewery.

Superbe nez. Saveurs modelées pour éviter une catastrophe sucrée. Parfaite en verre de dégustation.

Draft at the Funky Buddha Lounge. Can’t believe I have never rated this before. Snifter at the Lounge. Pours a dark cloudy brown with a thin tan head. The aroma is Reece’s Peanut Butter cup. More peanut butter than chocolate. They get an A+ for the aroma. Spot on. The taste is not overly sweet but is very defined peanut butter, butter, nuts, slight bread, and caramel. Medium body and light carb.

Tap at CBC 2014. Brownish coloured, small head. Heavy malty coffee aroma. Starts very dry-malty, earthy, woody, some notes of cinnamon. Finish well balanced. Okay.

Just like drinking a peanut butter cup only not as sweet. Not too chewy and nicely carbonated. Definitely a dessert ale.

Growler thanks to Wade. Pours a dark brown with small beige head. The aroma is strong peanut butter, chocolate roast. Thin mouthfeel with sweet chocolate, light peanut butter, dry finish. Very good.

Keg at the Copenhagen Beer Celebration 2014, blue session. 02/05/2014. Red / caramel coloured pour with a lasting thin cream head. Aroma is veg pepper, mutty malts, slightly salty. Flavour is woody oak, earthy notes, peanuts. Palate is high carbonation, big body and the finish is nice and dry. Lacklustre.
