Kevin put on his monk robe for our take on the Belgian Dubbel. A rich malty beer with a nice spicy citrus tones in part to the added coriander and Belgian abbey yeast.

Interesting beer here. Kind of a bittle muddled right now. Fruity esters and rather sweet, lacking some of the more belgian qualities that even Barefoot Buddha had. Still good, just didn’t impress me. I was hoping for something like Barefoot Buddha except less sweet and toned downed slightly. That wasn’t what this was.

Draft… Mostly clear, deep, dark crimson ale with a mid-sized, creamy, off-white head. Decent retention. Smells a bit like a black Ipa with musky, earthy hops accompanied by black and chocolate malts. Medium-bodied with a fatty mouthfeel and vibrant carbonation. Unlike the nose, the flavor tastes nothing like a black Ipa (or a dubbel, for that matter) – toffee and caramel are balanced nicely to form a sweet concoction that I can only describe as an imperial amber. Finishes sweet and a touch fruity, like some sort of dark red berry. Smells like it looks, but tastes neither like it looks nor smells. Odd bird, this one.

On draft for Funky Buddha’s 1 year anniversary. Got a small sample of this while I was in between beers. Nice malty fruity flavors abound in the aroma and flavor. A subtle spicy tone that lingers on the back end. A very solid showing here.
