4.8 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20
UPDATED: MAR 21, 2012 I had this at the Florida Regional Brews Takeover at the Brass Tap in Wesley Chapel during Tampa Beer Week. I had heard about this beer for months and was a bit cynical, but once I had it, I can only describe it as a rare experience. This pour was perfectly balanced with smokiness and a gorgeous tint of Maple that was not overpowering. Its chocolate notes were very apparent but not out of check. Its coffee notes were like a rich espresso. This is a beer that is unique and truly worth experiencing. It illuminates many unique possibilities that creative brewing can yield.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Sample at GABF - Made a b-line for Funky Buddha went I got to the fest and this was the first sample of the day. Aroma of blod and fresh coffee, with a nice wallop of maple. Taste revealed more of the smoky bacon flavor but is melded well with the chocolate, coffee and maple than I would imagine. different and tasty treat.

This one has eluded me for too long! Huge pop from the growler upon opening, gushing lightly. Unmistakeable maple bacon aroma lights up the room. Gimme some pancakes to go with this aroma, stat!
Started off over-carbed, yet the viscous mouthfeel remained. A few minutes later brought mouthfeel nirvana. Bitterness from the coffee and milk chocolate balances well with the mildly smoked maple. Sweetness greets these flavors midway through before the porter yeast grabs the reigns, leading us to a dry finish. Taste is quite nice overall, yet remains a solid step behind the decadent aroma.
Big fan of the Buddha, and while I *did* expect to be more impressed by this beer, it's only because my expectations are sky-high that they were barely missed. A fantastic brew, regardless, and I can't wait for more. <3 FB

4.6 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20
Multiple pours at GABF. Pour is deep brown/black in appearance with a frothy brown head and great lacing. Huge maple syrup aroma - kind of ridiculous how much it smells like sweet maple syrup - big notes of coffee, earthiness, and deep roast, as well. Taste is very much like the smell - sweet maple syrup upfront, some vanilla, cocoa, a hint of smoke, brown sugar, and rich espresso with deep roastiness on the backend. Thick syrupy mouthfeel with soft carbonation. Literally smells amazing and has the taste to back it up. Like bourbon maple syrup covered pancakes with a side of fresh espresso. WOW! This was a treat and probably my favorite beer at GABF.

4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Tap at GABF. Oh this is a good one. Great nose of maple with a hint of smokiness. Each of the three flavors comes in its own way with the maple very subdued and mellow. This is a great beer and extremely drinkable.

750 ml bottle - kindly shared by FX Cannelle, sampled with Dennoman and Romain VeryNiceGuy at the pre-BBF13 tasting. Surprise of the evening! Pourse intensly black with light yellowy head. Complex aroma, more like a bouquet of mocca, coffee, roasted hazelnuts, caramel, butterscotch and toffee. Light body with a light sweetness in perfect balance with the roasty notes. Deep chocolate taste (bittersweet) with afternoon coffee alike taste. This is a great beer; such intensity of aroma and taste vs. the light body of the beer and such a looooong finish. Truly amazing. I never thought a porter could have so much depth and complexity.
