Our search for the finest cocoa nibs brought us to the far corners of the earth. We tried them all: raw nibs from Guatemala; roasted jewels from the West Indies. But the most potent, intensely chocolatey ones we found hailed from the far-away reaches of Brazil. But there was one problem. We had to get them back. So with sacks in tow, we stole away with those precious nibs and smuggled them, along with fragrant Madagascar vanilla beans, deep into the reaches of a pitch black milk porter. And so, Nib Smuggler Chocolate Milk Porter was born.

12os bottle. Bottled 12/23/15 (51 days old). Appearance: Jet black, opaque, with a thick brown head and nice lacing. A fair amount of protein clumps floating through the beer, which harms the overall appearance. Aroma: Amazing, strong dark chocolate on the nose, with roast in the background and a touch of vanilla. Very nice. Taste: Rich, velvety chocolate dominates with a light roast. A touch of charred wood appears as well. Moderate bitterness to balance the rich maltiness. Roast is stronger retronasally. Mouthfeel: Medium body with some slickness and a low carbonation. Finish: Lingering roast and vanilla long after the swallow, and some bitterness in the back of the tongue. Overall: Really good balance of the roasted malt, dark chocolate, and vanilla. Creamy mouthfeel and a sharp enough bitterness to balance.

Thanks to Greg for sharing the bottle! Poured into a taster showing translucent coffee with sparse latte foam. The nose is pure milk chocolate (think Hersheys). The palate is light bodied and foamy, well carbonated. The palate shows nothing but chocolate. Moderate sweetness but this is made for dessert. Perfect porter qualities though - light bodied, foamy and goes down easy.

Bottle shared at Ratebeer Tokyo W & CB Tasting. Thanks Gregg P! Huge hot chocolate nose with clear cacao nib and vanilla notes. Slightly thin body, but the flavors come though so strong on the palate. Lots of cacao in here. Rich and palate-coating. Not overly sweet at all. Dry and lightly bitter cacao nib finish. Liked this one a lot.

Medium brown color. Big chocolate nib and vanilla nose. Sweetish but not too sweet. Tons of brownies and lingering vanilla finish. Very nice

Bottle at the Rate Beer Awards Festival Hotel Bottle Share. Nose of chocolate, coffee, vanilla. Very sweet vanilla, chocolate, and lactose creamy flavor. Too sweet and additive-infested for me.

341ml Bottle from trade with Sean served at 54F. Thanks Sean. Aroma: intense chocolate aroma, hint of vanilla and fresh coffee beans. App: pitch black with medium frothy moka, on retention, good lacing. Taste and palate: medium body, smooth, just a tiny tad watery, moderate carbonation, men sweetness, finish is sweet. Overall: good stuff. Wish it was maybe a bit more strong, but overall quite good. Well done

Bottle: Poured a brown with tan head. Sweet coco chocolate nose. Sweet rich silky chocolate and dark malt, drinks smooth but lacks depth.
